II- Jason

The morning was calm and peaceful until the gryphons attacked.

Around 2:00 A.M, Jason and Hazel had been leaning against the railing of the Argo II, talking in hushed tones. The sun hadn't yet risen in the sky, so the stars still shone brightly.

Hazel fidgeted with her sword, staring out at the water passing below as they flew through the sky. She seemed deep in thought as she stared at the horizon, her golden eyes seemingly glowing in the moonlight.

Jason faintly heard voices from behind him, but that couldn't be right. Leo was the only other one awake, so who was talking? Unless Leo was talking to himself...

Jason's question was answered when someone else came onto the deck. Percy.

Percy's head was bowed slightly, his hands in his pockets. Jason realized Percy was still in his orange shirt and jeans, meaning Percy probably didn't sleep at all that night.

Hazel must have heard Percy's footsteps behind her, because she turned around. "Percy?
 Why are you awake?"

Percy jerked his head up. "You guys are up?" The he paused. "Oh, right. You took the night shift."

Jason frowned. "I think the more appropriate question would be why are you awake?"

Percy shrugged. "I couldn't sleep."

Hazel laughed softly as Percy made his way over to the railing. "I think you just didn't want to sleep."

Percy looked Hazel in the eyes, his expression calm yet deadly serious. "Would you be able to sleep after Tartarus?"

The word "Tartarus" dropped like a stone in the air. Truthfully, Jason not only felt sorry for Percy and Annabeth for having to journey through a place like Tartarus, but he was also impressed. There weren't many demigods who could go through Tartarus and survive, and there certainly weren't many who did. Only three: Percy, Annabeth, and Nico di Angelo.

Hazel nodded understandingly. "Probably not."

Percy gripped the railing, his black hair blowing with the wind. He looked down at the ocean far, far below. "Never thought I'd see the ocean again."

Hazel gave Percy a sympathetic look. "I'm guessing there's no water in Tartarus, of course."

Percy opened his eyes and looked at Hazel, a smirk showing on his face. "Unless you count firewater."

Jason coughed. "Uh, excuse me?"

Percy laughed. "Long story."

A smile grew on Hazel's face. "Sounds like it." Her smile disappeared as soon as it came. "When are you going to tell us what happened, Percy? Down in... Tartarus, I mean."

Percy's smile faded as well. "I will, Hazel. I promise. So will Annabeth. It's just, it's a lot to take in. We just came back from that place and... well, thinking about it will just bring back the memories."

Hazel nodded. "I understand. Whenever you're ready."

Percy smiled gratefully.

Just then the Argo II shook violently, causing Percy, who had been closest to the railing, to almost topple overboard. Hazel grabbed his arm just in time to keep him from falling overboard and into the sea far below, not that that would bother Percy.
