III- Hazel
Hazel really hated boats. And this sudden and rapid decrease in altitude wasn't helping her change her mind.
She was in the infirmary with Annabeth when the ship suddenly plummeted, so there wasn't much to grab onto when the ship tilted and fell. That concluded in Hazel tumbling onto the floor and rolling until she rammed into one of the beds in the room.
Hazel groaned, trying to stand up and get her vision to focus.
"Hazel?" Annabeth's worried voice came from the other side of the room. "You okay?"
Hazel shook her head, waiting until her vision came back before she responded. "Yeah, I'm fine. A little dizzy, but fine. You?"
Annabeth came into Hazel's view, trying to stand up. "I'm fine."
Hazel could still feel that falling sensation, like her stomach was creeping up her throat. She lifted her head and peered out of the window. The sight she saw sickened her. "Uh, Annabeth?"
"Yeah?"
"You might want to look out the window."
Hazel could hear Annabeth still struggling to stand. "Oh, gods. We're going down. Fast." Hazel saw Annabeth stand up, gripping the bed rail. "Come on, Hazel. We need to see what's going on."
The two girls stumbled out of the infirmary, going as fast as they could without tumbling into the walls or each other. Annabeth reached the helm first, where Leo was frantically pressing buttons and trying to stop the ship from slamming into the water below.
Annabeth ran up to Leo. "Leo! What's going on?"
Leo didn't take his eyes off of the controls. "I'm not sure! Festus said something was damaged in the gryphon attack!"
"So?" Hazel prompted. "Can you fix it?"
Annabeth nodded in agreement. "Yeah, before we crash!"
Leo frantically pushed a few more buttons. "I'm doing the best I can!"
"Well, it's not good enough!" Annabeth yelled over the roaring wind. She glanced over the edge of the boat at the ocean hurtling closer towards them. "We're getting closer!" she warned.
Jason came running up to the trio. "Leo! Is there anything we can do to help?"
Leo glanced back for a second before returning his gaze back to the controls. "Besides hang on for your life? Not much."
Frank and Piper ran up beside Jason from the opposite side of the deck, and Hazel spotted Percy stumbling up on deck, running from inside.
Percy glanced over the railing of the boat, paling noticeably. "Uh, Leo? We've got a few seconds at most before--"
"We go ker-splat! I know!" Leo finished.
Hazel desperately tried to come up with a plan, an idea, that would somehow stop them from falling. "Guys, wait! Maybe there is something we could do..."
