XI- Jason

Jason was envious of the mortals for one main thing: their dreams.

Demigod dreams suck, to put it bluntly. There's hardly a night that goes by where Jason doesn't dream of actual peaceful things. No, it has to be either the future, flashbacks, or some kind of message from a god (cough, cough-- Gaea).

This night was no exception.

Jason's dream began in a small clearing, surrounded by tall pine trees. A little light filtered through the trees, just enough for Jason to figure out it was mid-morning.

At the edge of the clearing was one of the larger trees, a dying fire beside it. Nico leaned against the tree, sleeping; Coach Hedge the same. A shadow loomed over the two, and Jason looked up to see the Athena Parthenos, nearly camouflaged in the trees.

Reyna was still missing.

Breaking the silence, a twig suddenly snapped. Nico's eyes were immediately open, alert. He nudged the old satyr, who kept snoring.

"Coach," Nico hissed. "Coach! Wake up!"

Hedge grumbled something about annoying demigods, but he slowly sat up, stretching his arms like he had all the time in the world. "What is it, di Angelo? You interrupted a perfectly good dream--"

"Shh!" Nico hissed. "I heard something. Get up."

Another twig snapped, sounding right behind Jason. Of course, his dream-self wouldn't turn around, so he had no idea who, or what, was behind him.

Nico jumped up, his sword in hand. He scanned the tree line, anticipating an attack.

Hedge used the tree to push himself up. "I swear, di Angelo, you're hearing things--"

"Coach!" Nico whispered. "Maybe if you stopped talking, you could actually use that satyr-hearing of yours!"

Hedge huffed, but shut up.

Another snap. Nico tensed. "Over there." The son of Hades pointed at Jason, though Jason knew he was actually pointing at something behind him.

Jason's dream-self finally stepped to the side, turning 90 degrees to the right, allowing Jason to face whatever was approaching.

Red eyes. The light shone off the creature's eyes harshly, giving them the illusion that the eyes were glowing. A growl ripped through the silence, and the creature's teeth, which were almost as bright as its eyes, were showing, sharp and deadly.

Coach Hedge groaned as the monster finally stepped into full view, its black fur matted. "Another hellhound? Gaea has got to get more original."

Nico glared at Hedge, then returned his gaze to the approaching monster. "We don't have time for this..," he muttered as he stepped forward, his black sword raised.

The hellhound growled and pounced, forcing Nico to side-step to avoid the monster's deadly claws.

"Coach!" Nico shouted. Hedge immediately responded by bringing his club down onto the hellhound's side. While the beast was off balance, Nico charged in, and in a few swings of a deadly sword, the hellhound was no more than shimmering dust in the wind.
