Philippe 'Pip' Bernadotte (OC): Sixth-year Gryffindor prefect, prefect partner to Ceres Victorinus. Bernadotte is French with some Swedish descent (still in contact with his Swede cousins). He's not entirely sold in the value of an education when his family had always been Hit wizards (and, well, mercenaries, not that it's something to mention in polite company), and more recently, Aurors. It made his current presence in Hogwarts chafe even more when most of his relatives were back home defending la patrie.

Unlike de Breteuil, his family was never that high in the nobility (they were mercenaries at first, after all) to even hold the whole thing about main branches and cadet branches. So, it didn't even matter to them even if he was the oldest male child of the oldest line. He is generally friends with the rest of the French wizards and witches (he's a guy who makes friends easily), but his oldest friend is Ceres Victorinus.

'Philippe' is from the Greek name Φιλιππος (Philippos) which means "friend of horses". It's a name that has gotten around through the centuries that most people named Philippe is usually from someone else named Philippe instead of the name being a wish that the child would grow up and be a great cavalry officer/horse rider. Several kings of France have had this name, as well as the kings of Macedon (this included the father of Alexander the Great).

First appearance: Chapter 24 ("The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men I") during lunch. Mentioned by Julia in Chapter 29 ("The Complexities of Calling and Courtship"). Appears again in Chapter 38 ("Saturday Mornings") at the beginning of the Hogsmeade sub-arc.

Second Arc: In Chapter 66 ("Life on Mars") it's clear that he takes the Advanced Defence II class, sharing it with Ceres as well as Paul and Peter Prewetts, among several others.
