Ethel Macmillan (OC): First cousin of Tancred Macmillan. Where 'Tancred' is 'thought and counsel', 'Ethel' means 'noble'. She's one of the sixth-year prefects from Hufflepuff, narrowly beating Camellia Lee to the position. Camellia might have accepted her loss with grace, but Ethel knew it all too well. This gives her a sense of insecurity at times—she suspected that she might not have become Hufflepuff's prefect for their year if she didn't come from one of the Sacred 28.
Her cousin supports her and pushes her up, telling her that if she was worried that Camellia would actually be a better prefect than her, then it meant she should do her very best. She wouldn't want Camellia to think that such a weak-willed witch had beaten her, would she? Tancred is certain that she is capable of making Camellia proud.
First Appearance: She is actually present in the first ADADA class scene in Chapter 20 ("Arithmancy, DADA and Risk-taking ") but only in passing, she is called out just before Augusta Delagardie. She is present at the first Society meeting in Chapter 20 ("Councils in Times of War"), among the prefects there.
