Ceres Victorinus (OC): Sixth-year Gryffindor prefect and transfer from France who is the prefect partner to Philippe Bernadotte. A half-English, half-French witch whose mother was a muggleborn witch, her family is one of those that are old (notice the old Roman name) but has always been content with where they are. As they are not avid social climbers, they've never cared much for the opinions of the Ton (hence why they're rather relaxed on marrying 'out' to muggleborns and the like).
It may have something to do with how they're a traditionally more martial family. Her ancestors were in the wizarding army when the French wizards still had an army, and then since the Aurors were established, they entered the Auror force. It's probably why she and Pip already knew each other even before Beauxbatons—their families moved in more or less the same, less-rarefied circles.
She takes her duties as a prefect to keep public order seriously, though never to Verrault's unbending extremes.
'Ceres' is the Roman analogue to the Greek 'Demeter'. Both are goddesses of the land, fertility and harvest.
First Appearance: Visiting the Ravenclaw table in Chapter 24 ("The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men I"). Hermione met her again in Chapter 38 ("Saturday Mornings") and Chapter 41 ("Aftermath").
Second Arc: In Chapter 66 ("Life on Mars") it's clear that she takes the Advanced Defence II class, sharing it with Philippe as well as Paul and Peter Prewetts, among several others.
