Orphne 'Orpheus' Dexter (OC):
Current Post: Head of the Ravenclaw House, Professor of Astronomy.
Previous Post: (Hermione finds out in Chapter 29) Member of the Royal Society of the Sages of Stargazers.Flitwick seemed a tad too new in this time period (if he's already teaching) to already be granted the title of Head of Ravenclaw, so I had to find someone else. His last name is a nod to JK Rowling's in-joke to the Astronomy professor's last name in the HP books (Sinistra is Latin for 'left', while Dextra or Dexter, to use the Anglicised version, is 'right'). His first name is also a nod to that (Aurora means 'dawn', while Orpheus is thought to have originated from Orphne*, meaning 'the darkness of the night').
Dexter is dishwater blond and he keeps his long hair in a single braid down his back—in this sense, he has a more practical bent than Dumbledore who lets all his hair just swing loose. His robes tend to be dark if not outright black and understated. Occasionally it is detailed with celestial objects embroidered. Intensely loyal to all his charge, he's not one to sit still if anyone tries to hurt anyone he considers to be his children.
*Technically, his name is actually Orphne, it's just that people keep mishearing it as Orpheus that the poor man doesn't bother to correct them anymore and even introduces himself as Orpheus.
First Appearance: Chapter 4 ("A Sorting to Sing to"): He appears at the beginning when Hermione was just getting used to Hogwarts again. He appears again in Chapter 26 ("The Honesty of Children") and teaching the midnight Advanced Astronomy class in Chapter 29 ("The Complexities of Calling and Courtship").
