Melchior Nott (OC):

Fifth-year Slytherin, an important Knight of Walpurgis. 'Melchior' comes from Semitic roots that meant 'king city'. This is the name of one of the Magi or three kings that were said to have visited the newborn Jesus). He must exist in canon in some form as either the grandfather or father of Theodore Nott in Harry's generation.

Pragmatically decides that to side with TomRiddle early on is better than to be trampled later on when he has gained allthe power he wishes on his side and has taken the wizarding world by storm. Itis better to be the conqueror's left-hand man than to be part of his conquest. He is quite aware that Tom is most probably not apureblood, for one, but he thinks that in the quest for power, all is worth it. Melchior thus enters his alliance with Tom witheyes wide open.

First Appearance: Rather early in the library in Chapter 7 ("Agreements: Trust or Lack Thereof I"), he is the first Knights of Walpurgis to appear in the story. He is also in Chapter 8 ("Agreements: Trust or Lack Thereof II") and Chapter 16 ("Mobilisations and Responses").

As of the First Arc: One of the few Knights who does not leap to conclusions when he first observed Tom's closeness with the new transfer student, Hermione Curie.
