«Shannon»
"Hi honey." I hear Lana greet and I smile at that.
"Hi my love." I hear a deep voice reply.
"Come. I want you to meet someone." She says and the door opens. I see Lana and a man walk though.
He has some simalar features like Cody and I can see they are related. Cody is a mix of both of them.
I stand up and Cody does too. He walks to the man with our hands still inlaced and stop in front of him. The man eyes me wearily and I look at Lana to see her smiling.
"Dad, this is Shannon. Shannon this is my father, Simon." he says and the man looks him in the eye.
"Good evening sir, it's nice to finally meet you." I stretch out my hand for him to shake and he looks quite shocked at the gesture.
He takes my hand and give it a small shake then lets go.
"Likewise." he says and I offer him a smile.
"Shall we go sit. The food is getting cold." Lana beams and Cody leads me back to my seat. Eventually everyone is seated and I look at Cody to see him smiling slightly. Lana is grinning like a Cheshire Cat and Simon still looks shocked.
"Simon, Shannon said she wants to travel when she gets out of school." Lana begins a conversation.
Simon looks at me and then gives a hint of a smile.
"That sounds fun, where to?" he asks.
"Truthfully, everywhere... But I want to start my journey in Spain then I will decide from there." I smile and feel Cody settle his hand on my thigh.
"Ahh Yes, a wonderfull place. Why do you want to travel Shannon?" he asks and I smile.
"My parents sir. They raised me with traveling frequently and it made me who I'm now. They met while both were on a trip and I just want to see more of the world than be bound to where I am now." I say and Lana smiles. I glance at Cody to see him smiling at me.
"That's great. Are your parents okay with that though?" he asks.
"Yes sir. They actually encouraged me to do it before I start my studies." I say.
"Oh, I would never do that. Your future is improtant and a person would have to get a head start if you want to be succesfull in life." he says and my smile drop.
"It doesn't mean you can't have fun. You should enjoy your life before your time runs out." I say and I hear Cody sigh.
"Dad." he says and his father glance at him and then stare at me.
"Fun can have a big effect on your future, that's why you should avoid it." he says and Lana stands up.
"Let's dig in." She says and place some of the food onto her plate. Everyone follows and it is silent for a small while.
"The food tastes great mom." Cody says.
"Thank you Cody." She smiles and look at her husband.
"How was your day so far honey?" She asks and he sighs.
"Busy, I'm just greatfull to be able to leave the company for a little while to attend this." he says and eat some salad.
Silence fall apon us again and I glance at Cody every now and then and see him supporting a small smirk on his face.
"So, Shannon... Are you aware of Cody's plans after school?" Simon asks and I remember what Cody told me. His father wants him in the law direction but he wants to play football.
"Yes. I am." I say simply and see him frown.
"So you are okay with him staying here while you go and have 'fun'?" he asks and I sigh internally.
"Actually sir. I'm fine with the plans but if we were destined to be together, love will find a way. We would find a way to be together even if it happens after a long time." I say and he nods his head.
"But he already made his choice with the future. And I don't want some girl to plant some ideas into his head just to jeopordise his future." he says and I look at Cody he looks angry now and I can understand why.
Some girl?
"Simon." Lana warns and he looks at her and sigh.
"I have to get going. I'll see you later." he stands up and kiss Lana on her forehead before leaving out the front door.
"Sorry about him. He's just..." Lana tries to find a word but she can't until Cody speaks up.
"An Asshole?" he says and she sighs.
"It's okay Lana. I understand." I say and offer her a smile.
"We have to get going. See you later mom." Cody says and stand up. He walks over to her and pull her into a hug.
"Bye. Come again soon right Shannon?" She says and pull me into a tight hug.
"I will." I smile and Cody pulls me out of the house.
We reach the car and I sigh.
"That went well." I say sarcastically.
"It went better that I expected." Cody smiles.
"It was horrible." I say and he laughs.
"No... You stood up to him and didn't hold back. I am so proud and by the way... My mom is rather fond of you so don't worry about it. My father doesn't count." he says and leans towards me capturing my lips in a sweet kiss. His hand cups my cheek and he deepens the kiss as I lean into his touch and kiss back.
He pulls away and start the engine of his car.
"Now... Your parents." he sighs and I laugh. I give him directions as he drives and about ten minutes later we stop in front of a familiar house.
I get out and see my mother open the door. She looks confused and frowns as she stands on the porch examinating the expensive car behind me as I make my way to the small gate that surrounds out garden.
"Shannon?" She asks squinting her eyes.
"Mom!" I smile as I run through the gate and up the porch steps, two at a time.
"Hunter! Come out!" She screams into the house, calling my father.
"Oh My, Shannon!" She says as she envelopes me into a warm hug once I reach her.
We stand like that for a small while and then my father looks out the door.
"What's wro- Baby girl?" he asks and then wraps his arms around me and my mom hugging us both at the same time.
