// BOOK FOUR //

It's been two years since Demi and Maia Lovato decided to adopt me. It was rough adjusting after the world found out, but I love them for all they've done for me when I lost everything.
When I make some new frien...
Several days later, the world tour ended and Maia and I talked to Demi on FaceTime before she left to come home.
I had spent the last few days thinking about my upcoming conversation. I had no idea how they would react to me wanting to sing, but I was sure they would be supportive. They would probably be a little shocked and confused though, since I never talked about it before.
After hanging up with Demi, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Are you okay?" Maia asked.
"Yeah," I said, trying to think of an excuse as to why I might not look okay. "School has just been stressful."
Maia's expression turned sympathetic. "We can go out if you want. Maybe go to the mall." I noticed her eyeing my hair. The blue had faded a lot, but I barely paid attention to it. "If Abby's not busy, she can do your hair again."
I shook my head. "I'd rather just go to the mall and find a dress for graduation."
"Oh, yeah, that's coming up."
Raising an eyebrow, I said, "Did you forget?"
"What, no. Of course not. Maybe. Meet back here in... ten, fifteen minutes?"
Smiling to myself, I got up from the counter and Maia and I both went to get ready.
I applied some makeup and brushed my hair, putting it in a half-up/half-down style, then changed out of my sweats and into some jeans and heeled boots with a Fall Out Boy shirt. I grabbed a little backpack for my wallet and portable charger and slung it over one shoulder before grabbing my phone and going downstairs.

Maia joined me right after I opened a bottle of water and took a drink. Putting it back in the fridge, I asked, "Can we stop by McDonalds? I want a mocha to walk around with."
Maia gave me a look, but agreed.
We went through the drive-thru and got my mocha, but Maia wanted some tea from Starbucks, so we stopped at one on the way to the mall.
Once we arrived, I immediately felt like I was being watched. Maia noticed me tense up as I sipped my drink and whispered, "Ignore them."
I nodded, wishing I'd called Barrett to come with us, but I hadn't thought about it.
We walked around in different stores, like Hot Topic, Sephora, Ulta, and looked at a phone case stand near a pizza place and Subway. I ended up getting one with floating glitter inside it and put it on my phone as we looked around for stores that sold dresses and shoes. I tilted my phone, watching the glitter and sipped the last bit of my drink.
"Wanna try Forever 21?" Maia asked, stopping in front of it. We threw our empty cups in a nearby trashcan then went in and looked around. Maia stopped in front of the makeup so I had to pull her away and we found some long dresses. "These are so pretty."
"Yeah, but I'll be wearing heels and I don't want to trip over my dress," I pointed out, searching another rack with shorter options.
"True," Maia said, still glancing over at some makeup.
I rolled my eyes and pulled out a black and white dress. It had a short, flared skirt with lacy, black trim and the top was covered, but still showed some skin. "Hey, what do you think of this?" I asked, holding it up for Maia who had walked away. I walked closer to find her inspecting something in the shape of a heart and her head snapped up.
"That's so cute," she said. "But look, it's a rainbow highlighter. And it's a heart!"
"Yeah, it's super cute," I said, ignoring other customers watching us. "I'm gonna go try this on."
She followed me to get someone to open a dressing room for me and Maia held my backpack while I put the dress on. It fit perfectly. I stepped out to show Maia and I could tell she loved it.
"If only my wedding dress fit that well the first time," she said before I went back to change so we could pay for it.
We left with the dress and highlighter because Maia couldn't part with it, and found a shoe store. We went off in different directions and I found several pairs of heels, but settled on some black ones with a strip of silver glitter. When I found Maia, she was standing in front of a mirror with some knee-length boots on.
"Jesus, how tall is that heel?" I asked, startling her.
"The box said six inches, so I'm kinda scared to move. What did you find?" She sat down and took the boots off, putting them back where she found them and slipped her own shoes on as I showed her my heels. "Those'll look so nice with the dress. We have to go back to Sephora. Are you ready?"
I nodded and we went up to pay for the shoes. I carried the bags so Maia could roam free among the makeup. By the time we left, her arms were covered in eyeshadow, highlights, and lipstick swatches and we had three more bags full of makeup, one for me and two for her.
She asked if I needed anything else and I pursed my lips to one side. "I could use a belt," I said, and we continued walking into stores until we found a thick, black belt with a jeweled crown.
Maia wanted to walk around more, but that idea was shot down with a look at her phone. "We have to go pick up Demi. Come on." We rushed out to the car and put everything on one side in the backseat so I would have room to sit once we got Demi from the airport.
Max was with her, carrying her luggage to the car while she hugged me and Maia.
"I missed you two so much," she said. "I'm never, ever leaving, ever again."
"Oh, no, then we can't throw huge parties without you," Maia said, almost no emotion in her voice so that Demi knew she was kidding. Demi glared at her before pulling her into a brief kiss.
I got into the backseat and once we were ready to go, Demi looked back.
"Someone had a good day at the mall."
"Yeah, you didn't notice from all this?" Maia asked, laughing and showing her colorful arms to Demi.
"Good Lord, I didn't even see that. I'm so tired from traveling and singing. Speaking of, Rosie, you were amazing. The fans wanted you back, so I had to explain you were only there for Maia's birthday."
I felt my cheeks heat up slightly. Now was a good time, I supposed. "Actually, there's something I wanted to talk to you two about," I started.
Maia started driving and Demi leaned between the seats to give me a curious look. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just... Jay said I was really good at singing and said I should pursue it. And for Maia's birthday, I had so much fun, and I think... I think I want to give it a shot."
Maia's mouth dropped open and Demi looked so happy. I knew I had nothing to worry about.
"Oh, honey, that's amazing. Just let us know if you need anything, okay?"
I nodded and smiled at Demi, her reaching back for my hand. She gave it a light squeeze.
"I'm so lucky to have such supportive moms," I said, and both of them awed.
"Well, we're so lucky to have you as a daughter," Demi replied, Maia nodding in agreement.
Everything about this day was perfect. Demi was finally home, I had the best girlfriend in the world, and pretty soon, I would graduate and work on a music career.
