Nadia squinted against the dazzling rays of summer sun blasting through the sparkling window. She rolled onto her back and let out a heaving sigh before her eyes instantly darted to the letter stood proudly on her nightstand. She beamed.
It wasn't a dream.
Swinging her thin legs out from under the luxurious covers, she stretched herself and gave out a yawn. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and sluggishly made her way to the bathroom.
Taking the brush from the shelf, Nadia combed her silky locks and brushed her teeth before getting changed for the day ahead.
Approving her appearance in the mirror, she exited the bathroom and descended the polished marble staircase into the kitchen, intrigued by the drool-worthy aroma of pancakes dancing around the room.
"Good morning, Miss Nadia. Sleep well?" Dippey greeted, tossing another pancake in the air. "Dippey has prepared your favourite."
Nadia inhaled the sweet scent of the fluffy pancakes and rich maple syrup, allowing it to fill her nostrils. "I slept perfectly, thank you. How did you sleep, Dippey? By the way, breakfast smells delicious." She praised.
Dippey grinned, a faint blush coating his bony cheeks as he served the joyous girl some pancakes and syrup. "Dippey slept well, thank you."
Then, Katherine came behind him placing a light kiss atop both Dippey and Nadia's heads. "Morning."
"Morning, mum." Nadia replied, her mouth full.
Katherine smiled lightly at her daughter but it quickly faltered, something which didn't go unnoticed by Nadia.
"Mum? Everything okay."
Katherine sighed knowing that she had been caught out. "Truthfully, no." Nadia's eyebrows furrowed as she wiped her mouth free of any crumbs or leftover syrup. "It's your father. He was called in on a mission early this morning so he won't be able to make it today."
At the sight of Nadia's crest-fallen features, Katherine sighed again. "I'm so sorry, angel. He tried everything he could to be here but it didn't work." Then, her eyes lit up. "But he says that he has a surprise waiting for you. Call it...a late birthday present."
Nadia's spirit lifted slightly as she pushed herself up from her chair with a forced smile. "I can't wait."
Nadia adored the fact that her parents were Aurors because it meant that they were protecting the Wizarding World from every inch of harm. However, it also meant that their entire lives were devoted to their job, rendering them very busy all the time.
"Anyway, time's fading away. Let's get going!" Katherine said excitedly bringing the smile back to Nadia's face.
"Yes!" She squealed before turning to Dippey with a grateful smile. "Breakfast was lovely, Dippey."
Then, she and Katherine exited the house. Nadia let the warm sun soak into her pale skin, letting the summer breeze flit through her wavy locks.
However, her mother stuck her arm out as a signal for Nadia to loop her arm through it. She immediately froze. "Mum?"
"Yes, we will be apparating. I know you don't like it but it's so much easier, angel." The elder woman answered putting a stop to the girl's protests before she could even try.
Nadia huffed defeatedly before gulping and hoping that her breakfast wouldn't decide to reappear. Then, wrapped her hand around her mother's arm.
It felt like she was being twisted and pulled in every direction possible. Up, down, side-to-side. It's as though she was being turned inside out repeatedly.
