Nadia stood, wearing her Hogwarts robes and eyes darting around in confusion.
Here she was in the middle of Kings Cross Station, re-reading her train ticket repeatedly to make sure that she wasn't hallucinating.
"Platform 9 3/4? Surely there's no such thing." She huffed in annoyance. All she could see were platforms 9 and 10. There was no in between.
Nadia thought she could ask someone but she probably already looked strange enough wearing black robes and pushing a trolley stacked with her large trunk, Opal's cage and several things wrapped in brown paper packaging.
Jakob and Katherine weren't even there to assist her; they were called into the Ministry at the last minute. They had apologised to her profusely for not being able to see her off for her first time at Hogwarts.
Nadia sighed. She seemed to be seeing them less and less recently and she didn't like it.
Then, a flustered female voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "It's the same every year! Always packed with muggles!" Nadia decided to go and follow the voice, only to bump into someone.
Before she fell to the floor, a hand secured itself around her wrist.
"Are you alright?" She looked up and was met with emerald-green eyes, much like her own.
"Fine. Sorry about that." Nadia replied, standing up straight and brushing herself down.
She locked eyes with the boy in front of her for a moment, subtly inspecting him. He had messy raven-black hair and he wore silver-rimmed circular glasses which were currently being held together by a small piece of tape. Then, she noticed his trolley and asked, "Hogwarts too?"
"Yeah, but I have no idea where to go...or what to do." He stammered, gesturing to the ticket clasped in his hand.
Nadia chuckled comfortingly. "Don't worry, neither do I. I was about to ask those people but then this happened." She let a small giggle escape her lips, causing the boy to smile.
He continued to stare at her but Nadia's mind was elsewhere as she spotted two red-headed boys disappear through the brick wall between platforms 9 and 10. She gasped in disbelief which made the boy look too.
Nadia then approached the family, the boy following close behind.
"Excuse me!" She called. "How do you..?" Nadia trailed off, not really sure of how to ask about what she had just seen.
"Get onto the platform?" The woman laughed lightly. She was rather plump with shoulder-length red hair and freckles dotting her blush cheeks.
Nadia and the boy nodded slowly. "Don't worry, it's Ron's first time too." She said, pointing to a boy who was stood slightly behind her. He nodded a 'hi' and gave a small grin.
"Now, all you have to do is walk straight at the wall between platforms 9 and 10. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous." The woman instructed, making it sound so easy.
Nadia and the boy shared a worried look before he spoke up cheekily. "Ladies first?"
Nadia sighed, throwing him a half-hearted glare before turning and facing the wall with her trolley. She began to run and braced for impact.
However, it never came.
Nadia felt a cool rush of wind blow past her as she opened her eyes and saw a magnificent scarlet steam engine. She peered around and noticed a sign reading: Platform 9 3/4. She smiled lightly to herself. Her journey was beginning.
Nadia had just finished hauling her trunk into an empty compartment once her other things and Opal had been placed elsewhere, when the raven-haired boy from earlier appeared at the doorway.
