The Battle raged on. Flames danced around the castle. Students and staff traded spells with the Death Eaters as the quartet pelted through the madness.
Hermione gasped as she caught sight of Fenir Greyback huddled over Lavender Brown, fresh red blood trickling down his lips. He looked up and smiled maliciously.
"No!" Hermione blasted him with a spell, hitting him straight in the chest, but it was too late for Lavender. Nadia regarded the deceased girl with sadness before starting off again.
They raced away from the burning castle. In the distance, the trees of the Forbidden Forest shedded sparks into the sky like scarlet feathers. Screams shattered the night as shadows battled in the far dark.
The quartet were hit with a thunderous shockwave as a monstrous giant lurched forward, swiping its great club, narrowly missing the group and scooping a large wad of earth instead. It roared in anger before stupidly lumbering off.
The quartet continued to tear through the catastrophic grounds, dodging baby Acromantulas and shooting curses at oncoming Death Eaters.
They bolted down the stairs towards the boat shed, moving quietly through the eerie light.
Suddenly, Voldemort stepped into view, brandishing his wand, as they ducked behind a wooden chest.
"Why doesn't it work for me?" Voldemort's raspy voice asked.
"You have performed extraordinary magic with this wand, my Lord." Came Snape's monotone but slight fearful voice. "Just in these last few hours alone--"
"No! I am extraordinary! But the wand resists me!"
A threatening slithering sound was heard, as though the snake was circling the two wizards.
"There is no wand more powerful. Ollivander himself said it. Tonight, when the boy comes to you, it will not fail you, I'm sure. It answers to you and only you." Snape defended.
"Does it?"
"My Lord?" Snape's tone was becoming shakier with every word.
"The wand. Does it truly answer to me?"
Silence. The shadows inside the room didn't move a muscle, as though studying one another. The only sound was the lapping of the lake.
Then, Voldemort spoke up with a vicious undertone. "You're a clever man, Severus. Surely you must know."
Snape remained silent.
"Where, Severus? Where does its loyalty really lie?" Voldemort interrogated.
After a beat, Snape answered. "With you, of course, my Lord."
More silence.
"The Elder Wand cannot properly serve me, Severus, because I am not its true master." Voldemort's shadow inched forward. "The Elder Wand belongs to the wizard who killed its last owner. You killed Dumbledore, Severus. Whilst you live, the wand will never truly be mine."
Nadia gulped at Voldemort's vicious words, knowing full well how this was going to end.
"My Lord--" Snape started, his voice weak.
"You have been a good and faithful servant, Severus." Voldemort said. "But only I can live forever..."
Silence rung about the room as the quartet dreaded what was to happen next.
A horrible slitting noise sounded as Snape crashed against the window. "Nagini, kill..."
Several sickening thuds were heard as the snake repeatedly struck the man, him groaning and gasping in pain.
