Markus's POV
I was sitting alone on a crate, my head in my hands. Melody had gone down, comforting anyone who needed it and distracting the little ones with small magic tricks. I looked up when I heard light footsteps approaching me.
"Are you Markus? I'm with a little girl and another android... There's a bus leaving for the border in less than two hours, and we need passports..." She said.
"No, Detroit's under curfew. There're soldiers everywhere and they're rounding up all the androids and sending them to camps... Maybe you should stay here a while," I countered.
"Maybe you're right... We might be safer here until things calm down," She agreed.
"One of our people used to work in the State Department. He has electronic passports he can easily modify. I'll have him get them to you."
"Thank you," She said before turning to walk away.
"You said you're with a little girl, right? You know that humans hate us... Why are you protecting her?" I asked.
"She needs me. And I need her. It's as simple as that..."
"I have someone like that. Maybe you'll see her when you go downstairs... Ask for Melody. She'll keep your little girl distracted for a while."
"Thank you. We appreciate it." She left and I was alone once more. Or so I thought.
"You do know that you can't keep hiding forever, right?" Melody asked.
"Yes, but we can keep hiding until I figure out what to do. They're all depending on me, Melody. I can't let them down."
"I understand that. You're under a lot of pressure. But you don't have to carry all the weight on your own. I'm here for you, and I understand politics. You can use me for more than just magic tricks," She smiled softly. I said nothing, I just pulled her onto my lap, placing a kiss on her lips. She kissed me softly before we parted.
"What did I do to deserve you?" I asked, looking into her eyes with wonder.
"You exist," She answered, kissing me again.
"Melody?"
"Hm?"
"I love you... so much..."
"And I love you."
"Melody, if something happens to me, I want you to lead Jericho. You're the only one I trust enough to do it."
"I promise you it won't come to that. I won't let it come to that."

Markus's POV
Status: Jericho- Leader
Melody, Josh, North and I were in the captain's cabin of Jericho, going over our options.
"We're short on blue blood and biocomponents. Our wounded are shutting down and there's nothing we can do!" Josh said.
"Humans are conducting raids in all the big cities and they're taking androids to camps to destroy them!" North replied.
"It's all our fault... None of this would have happened if we'd just stayed quiet!" Josh said, passive-aggressively.
"All we did was show them who we really are... I don't want war, but I'd rather die free than live as a slave," I told them.
"What's the point of being free if no one is left alive?" Josh asked.
