Melody's POV

Days had passed since North and I had made up, and we had grown really close. She was like a sister to me; I told her everything, from work problems to family stuff to things from my past. It wasn't one-sided either, she shared with me just as much as I did her. We had taken to going on shopping trips often, even if we didn't buy anything. It was just two girlfriends, bonding. That didn't mean that I didn't also try and become North's wing woman. She always refused, saying she almost missed out on one awesome friendship because of a guy and she didn't want to do the same thing again. Her words, not mine. I gave up eventually, it was exhausting. Well, I almost gave up.

"Have you considered dating a girl?" I asked on our current outing. We were Christmas shopping because it was never too early.

"It's crossed my mind but honestly, I just want to focus on me. I have a lot of stuff to figure out, Mel."

"I'm just saying, girls are just as much fun in bed as guys are."

"Have you ever had a girl in bed?" North asked.

"A couple. Mostly one night stands, but I have had a girlfriend girlfriend before. She was adventurous, to the point that it was dangerous. But damn she was good in bed..."

"Why'd you break it off?"

"She found out I wasn't Human and accused me of using a love potion on her. I hadn't but I understood why she thought I had. It sucked."

"Sorry to hear about that."

"It's fine. It was a couple years ago and I've dated other people since then. People always seem to love me because of what I am or hate me for it. But what can I do?" I asked, shrugging.

"Nothing, I guess," North answered.

"Hey, do you mind if I run to the bathroom? Curse this organic body. Ya'know I envy the fact that you don't need to eat or go to the bathroom," I rambled.

"Go," North laughed and I hurried to the nearest bathroom. Finding the line too long, I decided to risk it and take my business to an alleyway. Once I was hidden from sight, I moved to pull down my pants when someone put a cloth over my nose. I started feeling drowsy and within seconds I was passed out.

North's POV

Minutes passed and Melody didn't come back. I was starting to grow worried. Melody never took long when she had to pee and something didn't feel right about the situation. I waited for a few more minutes before I started searching for her. Please be ok, Melody.

Melody's POV

When I woke up, I had no idea where I was. The only thing I did know was that I was tired to a chair, and there were thick gold handcuffs on my wrists, ankles, and neck. To top it off, there was a salt circle around me and it was too dark for me to see anything. It didn't stop my powers on its own, but with the added gold, it did block them. I was pretty much stuck in an unfamiliar place with no powers and the inability to shift. Shit.

"She's awake, Boss."

"Can I ask why I've been brought to wherever this is and why I've been bound?" I asked, calmly. This wasn't the first time this had happened to me.

"Shut up, bitch," A gruff voice said before someone slapped me. Hard.

"What should we do with her, Boss?"

"Ruff her up. We need her to be bruised and bloodied for her headshots," The 'Boss' answered before turning his attention to me. "If you can be romantically involved with a piece of plastic, and go on shopping trips with a tin can, then you can deal with the consequences." For hours, his men beat on me and cut me up until I was sure I looked like I belonged in a horror movie. But as bruised, cut up, and bloodied as I was, I was calm. At least I acted calm. Truth be told I was terrified. No Human had ever caught me so unguarded as to use chloroform on me, nor had a Human ever been properly equipped to render me useless. And if they could do that, what else did they know how to do to me?

"Don't you look stunning?" The Boss asked, returning from wherever he had disappeared to.

"Personally, I think I looked better before, but whatever floats our boat," I responded, instantly regretting it. He backhanded me again, and I had to admit it stung a little.

"Camera's ready?" He asked, annoyed.

"Yessir!"

"Then let's go live," He grinned. "Hello, Detroit! This is a message for the walking pieces of plastic and other hardware. We have your leader's girlfriend here, and might I just say, she's never looked better. Come on boys, show the camera the lady." The camera focused on me, and I was horrified. What was he going to demand for my release?

North's POV

I was searching all over Detroit, looking for Melody. I knew something must have happened to her, she hadn't once tried to reach me to tell the line was super long. And it had been hours. Something happened to her, and I couldn't go back to Markus and the others without her.

""Hello, Detroit! This is a message for the walking pieces of plastic and other hardware. We have your leader's girlfriend here, and might I just say, she's never looked better. Come on boys, show the camera the lady," A voice boomed over every screen. The camera went from a rather large and greasy looking man to Melody. She looked awful, bruises and cuts everywhere and there was caked blood covering her face and clothes. She looked so scared. I couldn't hide that I'd lost Melody anymore, I made a beeline for the Androids new home, looking for Markus in a panic.

"North? North what's wrong?" He asked, trying to calm me down.

"It's Melody. Come see," I said, showing him the broadcast.

"Nothing to say to the camera? Oh well, I have plenty. In exchange for the Princess, my boys and I want things the way they were before. That is, Androids go back to serving Humans instead of living as equals. None of you are our equals, but for every hour that you deny it, Melody here will gain a huge scar. And look, she's already not healing. But to prove how serious I am, let's give her her first scar." I watched in horror as one of the men walked closer to Melody with a golden blade that was covered in some kind of liquid before he made a huge, deep cut under the left side of Melody's stomach. She screamed and I held back tears. This is all my fault.

"Still nothing to say?" He taunted her. "Not gonna tell them to come looking for you?"

"No, Markus. don't! Stay far away! Please don't come looking for me!" She begged, not scared for herself anymore. The feed was cut and I looked to Markus.

"I'm so sorry... She said she was going to the bathroom... and when she didn't come back I went looking for her... Markus, I'm so sorry." I had started crying.

"Find Josh and Simon and meet me in my office. I'll be back soon."

"Wh- where are you going?" I asked.

"To get more help," He called over his shoulder, as he walked off. I couldn't help but feel responsible for this. My best friend was being tortured because of my people. This was all my fault...
