Melody's POV
I woke up content with how things were turning out. Markus and the other Androids had earned their freedom, and Markus had a meeting with President Warren today at noon. And that is how I woke up not in my own bed, but a hotel bed, laying on Markus' chest.
"I know you're awake, Melody," He said and I could just hear the smirk playing on his lips.
"No, you don't," I grinned, burying my face even deeper into his chest.
"Oh yeah?" He asked, rubbing my side lovingly.
"I'll have you know that I can fall right back asleep," I told him, leaning on my elbow.
"I know you can. You've done it three times this morning," He chuckled and my face went whiter than normal.
"N-no I didn't... Did I?" I asked, eyes wide.
"You did," He answered.
"Shit. I told myself I wouldn't do that."
"Well, you did. So are you waking up now?"
"Shut up, Markus," I grumbled, embarrassed. I had no memory of waking up once today before this, let alone three times!
"I love you too, Melody," Markus laughed, tightening his hold on me. I couldn't help the butterflies that took flight in my stomach or blood racing in my veins because my heart was pounding. Every time he told me he loved me, my entire body reacted and he knew it.
"Oh yeah? How much do you love me?" I asked, batting my eyelashes.
"More than you know," He answered, pulling me in for a soft kiss.
"You know every time you do that, I can't breathe, right?" I whispered against his lips when we broke apart.
"That's the point," He whispered back and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
"We have to get up. Ya'know. Do things with our lives. Even though I'd much rather spend the day in bed with you," I said, working on detangling my legs for the blankets.
"We have a few minutes," Markus said, pulling me back down to him.
"A few minutes turns into a few hours and we don't have a few hours," I told him, even though I desperately wanted those couple minutes.
"Do you want me to set a timer?" He asked.
"Is that even a thing you can do?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"I think so," He laughed and I gawked.
"That's so cool..." I said in awe, "Androids are so cool."
"Do you want me to set a timer or not?"
"It was your idea. Do you want to set a timer?"
"I never want to leave your side," He told me, kissing me again.
"I'm not leaving you to flounder, Markus. I'll be there too. And besides, I never want to leave your side either," I smiled, taking the initiative with our next kiss.
"We should probably get ready, huh?" Markus asked, defeated.
"Yeah, we should," I giggled, claiming his lips once more before leaving the bed and taking my clothes off.
"I thought we didn't have time for anything fun," Markus said, eyes roaming my bare skin.
"We don't, but I'm not meeting the United States President in my pajamas," I told him bending over and giving him a bit of a view.
"Melody," Markus groaned and I knew I was causing some... difficulties... for him.
"Mine out of the gutter, Markus. We got shit to do," I told him, throwing on a bra and underwear before rifling through my suitcase and finding a suitable outfit.
"Fine, but promise we'll have some fun eventually."
"In fifty years, I promise we'll have some fun," I answered, packing my tiny leather backpack with essentials.
"In fifty years? Melody!" Markus whined and I laughed.
"Stop being a baby. We'll have some fun sooner than that, but right now you need to get ready." We finished preparing for our day and finally made it out of the room. Somehow, we found ourselves in a meeting with President Warren. Oh joy.
"Good afternoon, Markus, Melody. It would appear that we have some things to discuss," She said and it took everything in me not to cringe at her voice.
"I couldn't agree more, Madam President," Markus replied, and I smiled. This just might go ok.
"It seems your revolution has resonated with the Human population and with our greatest ally. So I'm willing to hear you out."
"Well, it's as we've kept saying, Androids are alive and as such deserve the same rights as Humans enjoy," I told her.
"We know that it'll take time to integrate the two races, but we believe we could make it work," Markus added, grabbing my hand.
"What would you suggest we work on first?" Warren asked.
"Crime. Crime against Androids and crimes committed by Androids. That should be our first priority," I answered, remembering the conversation Markus and I had had.
"Alright. And after that?"
"Freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. And the right to vote and elect our own representatives, who would hopefully work closely with you, Madam President," Markus answered, and I couldn't help but feel so proud.
"Following that, we want Androids to have the right to own private property, and the right to hold jobs with equal pay to that of Humans. Overall, we just want equality between Androids and Humans," I finished.
"And why should the Human race stand for this?"
"It's as you said. Our revolution has resonated with the Human population and with Americas greatest ally. And as of right now only 33% of the American population is still supportive of you, President Warren. Allowing Androids to integrate into society would most likely raise your supporters," Markus answered and it seemed to hit Warren hard.
"And on top of that, Transmonia might be more susceptible to any requests you might make of us," I added.
"This will take time, you know," The president warned.
"We are aware. But any step is progress," Markus answered.
"Then I shall be in touch. I hope we're doing the right thing here. And one more thing. Melody, how is your mother?"
"Busy as always. Probably rewriting a doctrine for the twentieth time unwittingly. I'll have my work cut out for me after I'm coronated," I rolled my eyes.
"And on that note, I assume after your coronation we'll be meeting?"
"I intend to keep our alliance alive, yes. I was at the initial meeting, remember? Most of the alliance was my idea."
"I remember. Which brings me to my last point. I know you have a tendency to nickname most people and things you see; what's your nickname for Markus?"
"Robo-Jesus..." I answered, hanging my head.
"Why am I not surprised?"
"Because you've met me before," I snickered.
"I'll be in touch you too. Have a nice day."
"You as well, Madam President," Markus said as we left.
"Well that's embarrassing."
"Which part? That the President knows you well enough to know you nickname everything or that she knows your nickname for me?"
"That she knows my nickname for you. But I couldn't tell her to shove off, we need her for the plan to work."
"I know. I know. Now, how about we get you some food and then head back to the hotel?"
"You sure you can't read my mind?" I smiled before changing our direction to the nearest chicken joint.
