Melody's POV
I walked down the familiar street, alone and in my own little world. Memories passed me by and I smiled. I knocked on the familiar wooden door and was happy when I saw who answered it.
"Hi, Mom. It's been a while."
"Melon! Come in," My mother grinned.
"I was surprised to get your text mom."
"Well, I needed a break and I missed you. And Detroit. It's good to be back."
"Is everyone else here?" I asked.
"Yes, they're all in Detroit too. Now, what's been going on with you? I heard about the Android revolution."
"Yeah, I helped with that and in the process kinda maybe entered a relationship with the leader..."
"I'm sorry what?" Mom asked, surprised.
"Markus and I are together, mom," I blushed.
"Well, now I have to meet him. Bring him by, say 3? I'll round everybody else up and we can all meet him."
"I'll do my best to get Markus here," I smiled. I spent the next hour with my mother, joining her for lunch and talking. We hadn't done this in so long and it felt good to talk to her as if she was just another friend and not the queen of my country and my mother. Eventually, I left my childhood house and made my way to my current home, happy to have Roxy jump up on me as soon as I opened the door.
"Hey, baby girl! What are you doing out of your room?" I asked the excited dog.
"She was whining and I couldn't say no," Markus told me, leaning against the wall.
"As long as she wasn't alone. She's not allowed to be alone anymore because she ate my charger, didn't you Rox?" I turned my attention back to the pitbull who barked.
"I don't mean to sound possessive, but where were you?" Markus asked as I sent Roxy to go play.
"First, you do sound possessive and second my mother is back in town and she invited me to lunch and nostalgia," I answered, walking up to him.
"Oh yeah? Did you have a good time?"
"Yes I did, but she asked me to hogtie you and drag you to meet her, my dad and my siblings. Think you're up for it?"
"Meeting the Queen of an Alien country and the mother of my love? Sure, what could go wrong?" Markus asked sarcastically, and I knew the idea scared him.
"Not much. They just want to meet you and I've made my mom promise to hide the torches and pitchforks. And if push comes to shove, I'll bind them with a spell. Relax, I got your back, baby."
"Promise?" Markus asked, his hands finding themselves firmly on my waist.
"I promise that I have your back, as well as the rest of you for as long as you'll have me," I answered.
"Forever it is then. And I'll meet your family. When do we leave?"
"Mom wants us there at 3. We have a bit of time. And don't overthink it. I have a feeling it'll be pretty informal."
"I thought royals were supposed to be formal all the time."
"Have you met me?" I asked, confused as to why he thought that.
"Yeah, but I thought you were the exception, not the rule..."
"You're so sweet," I chuckled, "No, we're only formal during meetings or formal dances and such. The rest of the time we're like any normal family; assholes to each other but still defensive of each other till the death."
