Markus's POV
I was working with North and Josh on figuring out ways to help integrate Androids into the primarily Human world, wishing that Melody could share her ideas. I knew she was a bit busy with Roxy, who had a vet appointment, but I still missed Melody.
"Markus, can I talk to you? Alone..?" North asked, and I nodded; Josh took his leave.
"What's up?" I asked once we were alone.
"Well, I..." North stopped short, something stopping her.
"North, you can talk to me. I won't judge you if that's what you're worried about," I said taking her hands in one of mine and making her look at me. Whatever was on her mind must be bad if she didn't want anyone else here when she told me and my curiosity had been peaked.
"I shouldn't have said anything, it doesn't matter anyway..."
"If it's on your mind and you didn't want anyone else here when you tell me then it does matter, and it's important. You're important to me, North. We don't always see eye to eye but you've got my back and I have yours. Now, what's on your mind?" I asked, hoping my spiel would coax her into telling me.
"Really, forget I said anything," She said, turning to leave.
"North. Come on, it can't be that bad. Please tell me?" I pleaded. She looked torn, like she didn't know what to say, or if she should say anything in the first place.
"I really shouldn't..."
"I shouldn't have aimed a gun at Humans during a proclaimed peaceful demonstration, but I did that. Sometimes we do things we shouldn't too make sure that things will be ok. Come on, North. I won't tell anyone."
"I just... I'm not good at opening up or sharing secrets, Markus. And the fact that I'm even trying is big for me. Can't we just celebrate the fact that I am trying?" She asked, desperately trying to get me to drop it. I knew that'd she'd feel better if she got whatever it was off her chest, I just had to get her to spit it out.
"North, does this have to do with your past? Did something happen?" I asked.
"No, this has nothing to do with who I was before Jericho... It's a current... issue."
"Clearly you trust me enough to tell me something's up. Don't you trust me enough to tell me what is up?" I asked.
"Of course I do, Markus! I trust you the most out of everyone I've ever met. But, please, drop it. I changed my mind. I don't wanna talk about it."
"North... I'm sorry, I can't do that. You pushing me away is only making me more curious. And besides, I care about you. Please tell me? I promise I won't laugh or judge you. I'm a good listener," I tried coaxing her again.
"Markus... I can't..." She said, still pushing for me to drop it.
"Why can't you? Did someone do something to you?" I asked. I was growing worried, had something happened to her?
"No... No one did anything to me..."
"Then what?" I asked, concerned.
"It's too hard Markus. And it's personal..."
"I thought you trusted me?" I questioned, trying a new tactic.
"I do! I swear I trust you, Markus! I just really don't wanna talk about it..."
"If you could tell me, would you?" I asked, still worried about her.
"I don't know, Markus. Maybe."
"Why can't you tell me?" I asked.
"Markus, I don't know how to tell you..." North told me, unsure of what to say.
Melody's POV
I wanted to surprise Markus when I got back from taking Roxy to the vet, so I stalked around his office when I heard an interesting conversation.
"Markus, I don't know how to tell you..." North said as I peered through the crack in the door.
"So show me," Markus replied, offering her his hands so she could show him what was bothering her. I was not expecting what happened next. Something clicked in North's head and she lunged at Markus, kissing him. My eyes grew wide, watching the scene unfold before me. Tears pricked in the corner of my eyes but I kept watching. I had to know his reaction.
Markus didn't kiss back, instead choosing to push North off of him.
"North, I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same for you. I'm in love with Melody." I wiped the tears from my eyes, smiling. I didn't need to hear anything else; it wasn't my place to listen to Markus tell North off even though I wanted to. But he had passed the test and I was satisfied in leaving them alone. At least for now. I'd come back if one of them didn't leave soon.
Markus's POV
"So show me," I replied, offering her my hands. Now, we're getting somewhere. I thought she'd show me what was going on with her. I didn't expect for North to kiss me. I didn't kiss back, Melody on my mind, and I instead pushed North off of me.
"North, I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same for you. I'm in love with Melody," I told her, watching the pain overtake her face. I didn't want to hurt her, but I couldn't lie to her either.
"She's not even an Android, Markus! What do you see in her?" North screamed, hurt and angry before storming off.
Melody's POV
I was in the middle of my rounds, checking on Androids, seeing if they needed anything and performing small tricks for the kids. Anything to see them smile. At least I was, until North found me.
"You bitch!" She screamed, hitting me in the face. I heard the gasps, but I didn't retaliate, no matter how loud my inner wolf told me too.
"What's wrong, North?" I asked, knowing what was wrong, but she didn't need to know that.
"You ruined everything!" She screeched, kicking my solar plexus. I crouched down, but I still didn't retaliate. I looked up, seeing Josh's worried face. I made eye contact with him before he turned around, jogging off somewhere. Oh, boy. This is going to be interesting.
