Markus's POV

I stood at the head of my people, Melody right next to me. We watched the helicopters circle us, but we couldn't go back now.

We began to march toward the camp, silently.

"Here we are... The moment of truth," I said.

"Surrender immediately or we will open fire! Stand by!" A soldier commanded. We kept going, only stopping in the line of journalists.

"We don't want confrontation! We are protesting peacefully," I told them.

"I repeat: surrender now or we will open fire!"

"There's no turning back now," Melody said.

"We are here to demand the immediate liberation of all androids detained in camps across the country. We are not leaving until our people are free," I told them, firmly. We began marching again.

"FIRE!" Some of my people were shot, me among them, but I was ok. We all sat peacefully before I spoke again.

"Are you gonna open fire on unarmed protestors?!" I asked.

"All teams hold your fire."

"Markus, what do we do now?" North asked.

"We hold out. As long as we can..." I answered.

I stood on a car, looking out at the barricade my people were making.

"Markus, are you ok? I mean besides the stress... you were shot for the Gods' sake!" Melody said, looking up at me.

"I'll be fine Melody. They are all that matters anymore. Them... and you... are the only important things to me. I have to succeed for them... and for you."

"Running yourself ragged isn't helping anyone, Markus. In fact, if you do it too often, it's detrimental. I just want you to see all of your goals through."

"And I appreciate it. You've always had my back, even now when things are looking so grim..."

"Because this is nothing compared to the future Humans will bring... trust me, I know..."

"Hey, it'll be ok," I assured her, jumping down.

"I know it will be... I'm just scared of my role in the future..."

"You will always have a place with us, Melody... always."

"That's not what I meant, but thank you."

"We've got to finish the barricade! Come on, help me," I said, and the sadness and fear in her eyes were replaced by determination. We ran to a bench, lifting it out of the ground and propping it up against the barricade.

"Right, that should do it..." I said.

"I know it was not an easy decision to make... But I'm sure we're doing the right thing," Melody told me. I smiled at her before we entered the barricade.

"Light the fires, Mel?"

"Sure," She said, summoning a small flame and guiding it to all of the metal barrels with lumber in them. They caught fire, and some androids went to the flame.

"Markus, we found what you asked for," A North model said.

"There are some journalists over there... We have to make sure they know what's going on..." I told them. I picked up the device we had used to tag the square. They staked the holographic pins in the barricade and I tagged the holographic screen so it read 'Equal Rights For Androids'.
