Markus's POV
"Why don't you ask them? Melody asked looking behind North and I.
"DPD! Put your hands up!" Connor said, aiming a gun at the protestors head. Shocked, he put his hands up and sunk to his knees, allowing for an easy arrest. After a few minutes, all of Melody's captors had been arrested and she was released.
"Got enough, Anderson?" Melody asked, rubbing her wrists.
"Yeah, kid, we got enough."
"Excellent. I'm glad this wasn't all for nothing then. Did you bring it, Connor?"
"100% pure liquidated silver in a 23 gauge syringe as requested. Why do you need this?"
"Because it will help with the gold poisoning. Although it will also make me projectile vomit about 5 minutes after injection so there's that," She answered.
"Melody, did you plan this?" I asked.
"Yes and no. I planned to be taken after the new year where I would be wearing a wire for more evidence. The timing was off but apparently, it worked perfectly."
"My estimates were wrong. I apologize, Melody," Connor said, looking a little guilty.
"It's fine Connor. I have gold burns which can be healed easily enough and I only have one really bad gash. Honestly, I'd look healthier if I wasn't covered in blood."
"If you ever pull something like this again without telling us first, I am going to kill you Melody Lupine," North said, holding Melody in a bone-crushing hug.
"I'll take your word for it," Melody coughed and North released her.
"Promise me you won't do something like this again," I said, holding her close, happy she was safe.
"Markus, I will always have a target on my back. I can't promise I won't be kidnapped again. But I can promise that I'll always come back to you in one piece," She said, holding me just as tightly.
"Listen, kiddo, maybe you should go home and clean up and calm down your friends and come into the station tomorrow for your statement," Lieutenant Anderson said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"You sure that's ok?" She asked.
"Yeah, you'll probably remember more tomorrow anyway."
"Alright then. See you tomorrow."

Melody's POV
"I told you guys Melody had a plan. She always has a plan," Gabe said after we had gotten back to my place. I explained that I meant to be caught at a different time, so I could collect evidence for the Lieutenant and the ex-deviant hunter, allowing them to arrest and investigate my captors. The plan had gone a little differently but I was fine.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Josh asked me.
"Because I didn't want you guys to worry about something that was supposed to be a month away," I answered.
"Tell us next time, ok?" Markus said, rubbing my side, trying to convince himself that I was really there.
"Or better yet, don't do it again," North said, still pouting.
"I know you're angry at me North, and it's understandable. But I hope you'll forgive me."
"Melody, you told me you were going to pee. And then you didn't come back. I'm not mad, I was scared."
"I was going to pee. I didn't plan on any of this happening today, but the fact is people are always going to try and kidnap me. Comes with the title of Princess," I told her.
"Melody has been kidnapped more times than I can count and she always finds a way out, whether she planned on her kidnapping or not. She's scarily good at it, actually," Gabe said.
"I still don't like it," Markus, said, tightening his hold on me.
"I know. I'm sorry."
"Well, we should probably go. Call us tomorrow, ok Mel?" Gabe said, getting off my couch. The others agreed and left, leaving Markus and I alone.
"I'm sorry I scared you," I told him, genuinely sorry I had caused him so much worry.
"It's ok, Songbird. I'm just happy you're home, safe and sound. Come on, let's get you all cleaned up," He said dragging me upstairs and running a bath for me.
"Markus, you don't have to do that for me," I said, feeling bad.
"Of course I do. That's what boyfriends do, they take care of their girlfriends especially when they've been kidnapped."
"Does that mean you were Carl's boyfriend too?" I asked, grinning.
"Melody... don't be gross," Markus said but I could tell he was smiling. I laughed and stripped, letting Markus help me into the bath and clean me up.
"You know I could have done this with a spell, right? I asked as Markus washed me, on his knees outside the tub.
"Yes, but doing this by hand is helping me realize that you're really home, safe and sound."
"Oh, baby... I'm so sorry I scared you. That wasn't my intent, I just wanted to ensure that some dangerous racists were off the streets. I never meant to scare you so much. Please forgive me," I asked, making him look at me.
"Of course, I forgive you, Melody. But I don't understand why you ran headfirst into such a dangerous situation. You've already done so much for Android-kind, what more could you hope to accomplish?"
"Markus... I couldn't stop thinking about the moment we met and how they treated you like nothing and how there were reports of them doing the same thing now and how much worse it was even though Androids are slowly gaining rights and I couldn't stand thinking about what they would do to you or North or Simon or Josh if they got the chance. So I did what I always do. I offered myself to them as penance while under police supervision to protect my pack. To protect you. I will always protect you, no matter the cost to myself."
"Melody, don't you understand that I can't lose you. You mean everything to me."
"And you mean everything to me. I can be put back together and be the same person, you cannot. And it wasn't even that bad this time."
"But it could have been. It could have been so much worse. What if we hadn't found you as fast as we did? What if we didn't find if you at all? What then, Melody?"
"Then you be the man I know you can be and you hold your ground and you fight violence with peace. This is the aftermath of war. It's not pretty, but it's necessary and soon things will be better. Even if I have to get roughed up a little bit."
"I was so scared I'd lost you," Markus whispered, tears racing down his cheeks, his eyes boring into mine.
"Oh, baby... I'm sorry," I said, holding his head close to my chest and just letting him cry. My body was clean but my soul felt dirty, knowing I'd scared Markus bad enough he'd begun to cry. Thinking a spell, all the soaps and the sponge put themselves away, leaving the bathroom in pristine shape besides the clothes on the floor.
"How about you hop in with me and we'll stay here until the water runs cold? Then you can really feel that I am right here, baby," I said, wiping his tears.
"You can keep the water warm forever," Markus said and I laughed.
"That's the point," I winked and Markus blushed but still stripped and slid in the bath behind me, pressing me close to his body.
"I love you so much, Melody Lupine. I can't bear to lose you."
"You won't lose me, Markus. And I love you too. Always."
