The following week had flown by, Becca refused to leave my side after I shared the events of that night. She was disgusted with what he had done. She understood why he felt the need to push me away, but she believed there had to have been a better way.
It was game day, so we needed to arrive in full uniform. She had come over early to help with my hair and makeup. Declaring, "We needed to look amazing, so the world knows what they are missing!" I laughed it off, but this declaration didn't sit well. There was only one man I wanted, and he wanted nothing to do with me. The only favor I could do myself was to simply fade away from his life so that's what I intended to do.
Isaac had already talked to Mr. Lawson about switching seats, so I did the same. After both of us placing a request, he gave in and allowed us to move. Although, I'm unsure if moving was any easier. He now sat beside Brittany Craig, a girl from the cheer team, that he had slept with on numerous occasions throughout our high school years. They were constantly hanging on each other, making it apparent they were intimate with each other.
Becca insisted on driving us to school so when we attended the after party, I could drink my weight in whiskey. When did I become this girl? I rarely drank before senior year and suddenly I was drinking every chance I got. I guess it had to do with the fact that last time he broke my heart we were only kids, and hear I was on the brink of adulthood. My feelings felt as if they were magnified, and I was unable to control my impulses. The only thing that numbed the chaos within me, was the sweet burn of whiskey...and occasionally rum.
When Becca pulled in, she looked at me with worried eyes. "Are you alright? You seem really quiet."
"I will be much better tonight after the party gets going." I forced a smile as I climbed out of the car. Slamming the door behind me.
Becca followed my lead. "What if I told you I have something to hold you over for the day?"
"Depends what you have in mind." I laughed nervously, furrowing my brow at her in curiosity.
"Well I made them for tonight, but we can split a cookie now."
"Becca, I love you, but a cookie is not magically going to make everything better." Shaking my head, I turned to walk towards my first class.
"What if I said they were special cookies?" She smirked while holding up a giant bag of cookies.
"You didn't?" My head spun around halting my retreat for class. "Hell yes! I never have but I will take what I can get."
"You're going to need these," she tossed me her favorite Ray-Bans. She pulled out a single cookie to split it in half, "Bottoms up bitch." She crammed her half in her mouth before smiling wide. With a nervous laugh I followed her lead.
First block came and went, and I still felt nothing. When the bell rang, I hurried to meet Becca. "Do you feel anything?" I whisper-shouted once she was in sight.
"Not yet, but they take a little bit."
"Well they need to hurry up. Also, I may need another bite before Econ."
"Don't worry I've got you covered," she winked. "Just shake what your mama gave you and show him you're just fine without him."
"I don't want to do that, I just want to fade away."
"Em, please don't talk like that," she frowned at me. Worry evident on her face. "Just remember I need you so don't say things like that." The bell blared through the hall as I nodded, we shared a brief hug before going our separate ways for our next class. I dreaded being here, and my impending fate of seeing Isaac weighed heavy.
