Night fell quickly, blackness consuming the night sky. The clouds snuffing out the light of the moon and stars. Killing the engine to my jeep I was left in a painful silence, my emotions choking up for what felt like the millionth time. I wiped away the tears as I sobbed unable to control my emotions. Isaac was due to return home any day and I was growing impatient. My skin craving to be ravished by the gentle touch of his hands. His stay was being cut short, which meant he would need to return to his duties much sooner than expected. I had spent eight months without him and would only have him home in our bed a short time before he needed to return.
Wiping my tears away I finally found the strength to pull myself from the vehicle. My feet dragging along the pavement. I was exhausted, I awoke early that morning to pull a fifteen-hour shift in the office. Spending the day hunched over my desk preparing a column for the local newspaper. Working for the paper was okay but I had always pictured myself in the comfort of a lake house writing stories that would make anyone's heart race. Stories that allowed my readers to feel every ounce of happiness and sorrow just as deeply as its characters.
Shuffling through my key ring I finally found the one to our home and unlocked the door. Once the door was opened, I walked into the shadows the door clicking shut behind me. I felt around for the switch and jammed my foot into a large object, "Ow!"
My fingers finally found the switch and flipped it on causing the room illuminating. I looked down to see what I had hit my foot on and when I did my heartbeat quickened. It was Isaac's duffle. Without another thought I raced into our room, stopping when I spotted him curled up beneath the covers sound asleep. A sweet smile graced my lips as I slipped out of my confines, freeing my body to the cool air. I tip toed over to the bed and slipped myself under his arm, burying my face into his neck so that I could breathe in his scent. Oh, how I missed that damn scent! The comfort of his presence allowed me to drift off quickly, he was home which meant I was home. For my home has and will always be in the sanctuary of his protective embrace.
My eyes flickered open as the light of morning fought its way through the blinds, groaning at the thought of another long day. I pulled myself up from the bed, realizing that Isaac was no longer beside me. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes before picking up his pillow. Burying my face into its fluffiness, I breathed him in. My heart pounded as did my tears. I was overjoyed to have him home, even if it was a short visit.
The smell of bacon suddenly seeped through the cracked door filling the room, which made the grin on my face grow. Climbing from the bed made my way over to the chair in the corner of the room, swiping up one of Isaac's sweatshirt. Pulling it over my head I made my way out to the kitchen to greet my husband. I peered around the corner and watched him work swiftly. My heart fluttered at the sight of him making breakfast in only his sweatpants, which allowed me to admire his toned body.
"Son of a bitch!" He yelled when the bacon fat popped causing a few small drops to hit his exposed flesh.
"Here I can help," I smiled while gently placing myself between him and the stove. "I'm glad you're home."
He wrapped his arms around my shoulders before resting his head on my shoulder, watching as I finished the bacon. "I have missed you so much."
"I've missed you too," I whispered before kissing his cheek.
"I'm sorry I won't be home as long as I had promised." He backed away when he noted the bacon had finished cooking so that I could remove it. "Are you still going to take vacation time while I'm home?"
"I pulled a long shift yesterday to that I could." I smiled, while dabbing the bacon with a paper towel to remove the excess grease.
"Good, I don't want to share you with work or anything else while I'm home." He gripped the sweatshirt I was wearing and pulled me close, his lips brushing against mine. "I still can't believe I am lucky enough to call you my wife."
"—and you my husband." My mouth formed into a smile as his lips captured mine. It started out slow but grew in intimacy with each passing moment. His hands dug into my sides as he wedged me between the kitchen counter and his strong frame. "Isaac," I mumbled against his swollen lips, "my back."
"Sorry," he laughed as he lifted me up to place me on the counter. "I just-I need you." His words were desperate which stirred a desire in me unlike any other.
"You have me Isaac, all of me." The look in his eye changed from desperate to loving as he lifted me into his arms and carried me down the hall into our room. Kicking the door closed behind us, so that we could remain hidden from the world. Our full attention never leaving the other. He was mine and I was his, forever. Of that I was certain.
