"Becca where are you taking me?" I don't know how I allowed it to happen, but I was sat blindfolded in the front seat of her car. "If you're going to murder me just get it over with."
"Oh, don't be dramatic you're going to love the surprise," she giggled as she cranked up the stereo. I leaned my head back allowing the music to manipulate my thoughts, beautiful visions of my future dancing through my mind. The smile I wore was blissful and sincere. For the first time in years I felt truly happy. The car halted to a stop, abruptly pulling me from the world I was creating within the landscapes of my cognizance. "We're here!"
I waited patiently for her to make her way around the vehicle to assist me in getting out. When suddenly I heard my door click open before she even exited. My heart started to beat rapidly, "Hello?"
"Hey Em," his soothing voice cooed through the darkness that surrounded me. His warm hands gently wrapped around the back of my knees in order to turn me so my feet dangle outside the Subaru. "Okay, now just slide forward and stand up when I say." I did as he instructed my feet landing on the soft ground below, a nervous smile spread across my face as confusion set in. "You can stand now."
With my feet planted firmly on the ground I gripped onto his arms he had held out and pulled myself up. "What's going on?"
"Do you trust me?"
"I think so, but I'm getting a little nervous." My voice shook as my body shivered in the brisk air. Pulling his arms back he left me standing alone. There was a short scuffling before it fell silent around me again. The weight of his jacket was soon draped over my shoulders, his intoxicating scent engulfing me. "When can I take this off?" I gestured towards the tie around my eyes.
"Not yet, we have to walk a little way."
"I'm going to fall Isaac," a nervous giggle passed my lips.
"I've got you," I could hear the smile in his words before his hands firmly gripped the back of my thighs, "Jump!"
I did as he instructed and jumped wrapping my legs snuggly around his broad waist. With a delicate smile painted on my face I buried myself into his neck, peppering its length with kisses. His silent laugh erupted a flurry of desire in me. "I love you, Isaac."
"I love you too but you're not going to convince me to spoil the surprise."
Becca's door finally open and closed with a thud, "I'll meet you two down there." Her footsteps disappeared quickly, which only made my mind stir with the possibilities of what was about to happen.
"Can I know where we are going?"
"Nope," he stated mockingly, popping the last syllable. He tightened his grip on me before walking in the direction Becca had gone.
"You really aren't going to give me any hints?"
"Nope, sorry love."
"Well that just isn't fair," I teased before biting his neck.
"Ow," his laugh vibrated through us both. "What have I told you about biting?"
"Not to, but I also warned you if you're being a jerk nothing was going to stop me from doing it."
"Is that so," his left hand assaulted my waist causing me to wiggle against him. Burying my face deeper into his neck I bit down gently again before my lips slowly closed around his flesh kissing it hungrily. "Okay, okay. We have to stop, or we aren't going to make it to the meeting spot."
"Oh? And why might that be?" I fully knew the answer, but I wanted to tease him a bit more. I held his face in the palm of my hands so that my lips could easily find his. It started tender but grew hungry causing him to stumble over his feet.
"Em, you're going to make me drop you." His laugh was contagious, "I promise we are almost there and when we are done here, we can pick this up later."
"As long as you promise," I gave his lips one last peck before burying my head into his neck again. My body tingled under his contact, and I prayed this feeling would never fade. I wanted us to grow old together, while the passion we felt for each other only grew stronger. I wanted us to become that elderly couple you see at restaurants or around town that are so in love with one another. I wanted us to have that love that everyone craves for the rest of our lives.
He set me down gently, which I hoped meant we had reached our destination. Gripping my shoulders, he spun me around. "Ready?" His breath fanned my cheek as he whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
"Ready!" Once the fabric no longer obstructed my vision, I rubbed my eyes trying to force them to adjust to the brightness. When I looked up again everything fell into perspective. Some of the girls from the squad and a ton of the football players were gathered around, standing in a formation.
"Five, six, seven, eight!" Becca called out. Music flooded the cove, the ocean acting as their backdrop. Isaac kissed my cheek while hugging me from behind before jogging out to join the others in their performance.
Nothing could take the joy I felt in that moment. My cheeks and stomach hurt from the amount of laughter that poured out of me as I watched them. The girls were hitting every move with precision while the boys' moves were sloppy. It didn't matter though the grins on their faces lifted up their performance to one of the best I had ever seen. The boys lifted up two of our flyers, and once they were stable, they reached over and unravel a large banner that read: I'd make a fool of myself everyday if it meant going to Prom with you!
Isaac walked forward and consumed me in his arms, "I know I don't deserve you after everything, but I would be overwhelmed with joy if you agreed to be my date."
The nervous look on his face tempted me to tease him. "Did I not tell you? Sean's taking me."
"No, I'm not!" Sean shouted from behind Isaac. "She's a liar!"
My straight face faded, and a smile replaced it. "I would love to be your date." I raised myself up to my toes, our lips meeting briefly before a loud bang pulled me back. With a yelp I tensed up, which only made Isaac laugh harder as confetti fell around us. He wrapped his arms around me and peppered my face in kisses.
For the first time in a long time I was confident in our future together. His father was a month sober and would be receiving his first sobriety chip the following morning. Isaac officially filled out his paperwork for the military and already had his shipment date for boot camp and I had just sent in my applications for college. The future ahead looked bright and I was so eager to explore all the world had to offer us. With him as my partner in life I knew we could overcome every obstacle thrown our direction.
