"The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence; the past is a place of learning, not a place of living."

North's P.O.V

I stopped walking altogether and stared at this old man in shock, here he was telling me that Jack and Rhys didn't come into my life together, they came at completely different times. Ashby then began to chuckle and placed a hand on my shoulder and patted it. "It's alright North, you're going to be just fine".

He spoke in a calm tone, "You don't have to be afraid of what you don't know" he spoke and began to walk again, putting his hands in his pockets and walking. I got over my shock and ran to catch up to her. "Wait, you have to tell me-" he then cut me off, "I may be powerful North, but no one can speak of the unknown".

He spoke then sighed and turned to face me, "Only the person who holds those lost memories can recall them and truly see them for what they are" he paused, "Connor and Nymeria may have tried and believed that they can find your lost memories somewhere inside your head-" he gently touched my forehead.

"-But they can't, only the holder of those memories can bring them to the light" he explained looking towards the sun. Then I asked, "How, how do I get those memories back?" I asked looking at him completely confused.

He smiled warmly, "That's for you to decide North, I cannot simply dig in your mind and find a memory that you've not seen before, as I said, it's impossible" He spoke confidently, "Memories are not just about the past North, they determine our future and who we are going to be" he spoke still looking up at the sky.

"If you can find out what made you the way you are now and how your past can link to now, you'll find the key to your memories" he sighed once again, "I know it sounds odd and stretched, but it's the only the solution I can give you for now on your memory problem" I nodded slowly to him. I had so many more questions, but I knew less then half would be answered fully so I didn't even bother to ask.

I was disappointed he didn't have a complete answer to my memory issue, but I guess I'll take what I can get. I want to be able to remember but some parts of scare me, like what if remembering changes me, turns me into someone else, someone who's not me at all. I don't want to change.

Then he suddenly spoke, dragging me from my thoughts, "But about your beasts-" he said turning around and facing me, "The word 'fix' is not proper in this situation, in order to control your beasts, you have to know them, bond with them" he said, "See what they see, hear what they hear, they live inside of your mind North, you must know them to control them" he spoke confidently.

"How do I do that?" I spoke kind of understanding his words, "How can I see them when they are apart of me?" I questioned. He smiled, "Leave that part to me, I will cast a complex spell with the help of Nymeria they will allow you and your beasts to exist in one area in your head" He spoke, then I asked, "What do you mean 'area in my head'?" I asked he chuckled.

"The place you tend to go when you sleep, a dream-like world" Then I recalled what happened to me when I almost died all those weeks ago. I managed to shove it to the back of my mind in order to forget my near-death experience, but I know I cannot simply bury it, I have to tell someone, and if not Ashby, a man who can help me, then who?

"I assume they told you of how I almost died?" Ashby turned and nodded slowly looking at me strangely, it was silent for a minute, so I took it as a sign to continue with my strange story, "I went into this world, it was like field with a stream and sunset and beautiful hills that spread for miles, I was laying on a hand made bed but when I woke up, this women was there, but I don't think I ever got her name".

Ashby nodded, clearly interested in this place I was talking about, then I continued, "She wanted me to look at the sunset and told me if I saw a bright light, that I was dead and would pass on, but I didn't and she said I had a chance to live, so she yanked me over to the stream and tried to force the water down my throat".

"I don't remember how she looked very well, but her eyes were black except when she would blink, then a small wave of blue appeared in her eyes along with a blue ring around her pupil" I spoke, I don't I'll ever be able to forget her eyes, they were strange yet beautiful at the same time.

I frowned as I recalled the memories, "I tried to ask her questions and she told me how I was almost dead and why, but she kept calling me this name that-" I paused getting frustrated with trying to remember the strange name the women kept calling me.

"Xavier.." Ashby mumbled, my head shot up as his words clicked in my head completely, I stared up at the old man In complete and utter shock, "Y-Yes" I spoke in a shaky voice. How the hell did he know that?

"How did you know that?" I demanded of him, his head suddenly snapped up as if he was just starting to pay attention and looked at me in worry and shock. He then slowly began to walk over to me with sudden happiness on his face and more life in his orange-colored eyes. He chuckled loudly in surprise and placed his hands on my face.

"It truly is you isn't it!"

I'm sorry what....?
