"The thing about a hero is even when it doesn't look like there's a light at the end of the tunnel, he's going to keep digging, he's going to keep trying to do right and make up for what's gone before, just because that's who he is."
― Joss Whedon

North's P.O.V

Hope; that word has so many meanings and so many ways to see it, but some say that the most important thing someone can have is hope, the belief that things will get better and time will go on happier. I have hope, but not much is left or will be left after this is over, or if it ever will be 'over'.

I've noticed something though, something that has lit a spark in my darkness, something that gave me a small amount of hope. I thought the servants were afraid of me, I was sure they were, but then I noticed something strange, it started small at first, but now it's getting to be more noticeable.

About a week or so ago, I noticed the servants bringing small bags or items in the room with them when they drop off my poisoned food, they look around before they enter the room, just like you would, just to see if you're being watched, then their gaze would fall on me and their fearful eyes softened.

At first, I was sure it was pity and nothing but, then this servant placed a small brown leather bang on the table next to the tray. My curiosity got the better of me and I peeked inside, in the small bag, was a slice of bread and a small glass bottle filled with water.

After memorizing the horrid smell of wolfspan, I could easily determine that both the bread and water were clean of it. And after taking a sip and a bite, I've never felt better. My body felt euphoria after eating something fresh and clean of wolfspan.

And that kind jester was only the begging, day after day, the kind servants have been bringing me clean food and water and slowly I have been building up my strength, but of course, I don't let Anika or Ajax know, I have to appear weak to them in order to have a chance at leaving this place and going home.

But oddly, some part of me doesn't want to go home, a part of me wants to stay and finish off Demetri and his minions and set the trapped people free. But Demetri and Anika have magic and not to mention, Ajax is a Lycan like me or at least half like me, so I might not be able to fight him off.

I have to be smart about this, I cannot do this alone, I know that now. As for how the servants and I don't get caught? We have this unspoken agreement, when I'm done with the food and water, I place the items back in the bag and hid it under the bed, just beneath the comforter and by my chained foot.

And to let them know I am more than thankful for what they've done, I give them a simple nod which they often return with a smile. I've never spoken to them, and yet they have become my saviors, just when I was dying and low on hope, they helped me and for that, I'm forever grateful to them.

I made a silent vow that after I get out of here, I will come back and save them, just as they have done for me, they will be free. Even though I can never repay the debt of saving me from the brink of death, the least I can do is free them from Demetri. I can find comfort now in knowing I have a chance to survive now.

Even Rhys has begun to calm down.

So even in this endless darkness, I've managed to find the light once again.

Wyatt's P.O.V

Things have been pretty dull since North disappeared, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss him, he's the bravest guy I know and not one to mess around with. Yeah he used to scare me, but after all, we and this pack has been through, he's become like an older brother to me, so I miss him a lot and can relate to the pack's pain.

I've tried speaking with Nymeria on what I can do to help in this trying time, my mom and Kota have been buckled down in the nursery these past few weeks, and dad has been busy with double shift warrior training in case of another attack, so I've been pretty much alone and useless this whole time.

After a lot of begging, she finally put me to the job of assisting Klaus and Ashby in helping the wounded and crafting new medicine. I guess I became like their errand boy of sorts because all I do these days is run around the pack getting ingredients or asking Miah something. It may not be the best job in the world, but at least I'm helping.

Today has been pretty low key though, all I've had to do is go and get herds from Nymeria's garden and crush them up and make them into and pain-relieving tea, it sounds complex but it was actually really easy, especially after Ashby showed me a couple of times.

I was now walking down the hall from the second-floor library, Klaus had asked me to find Miah and make sure we have a certain herd for sleep medicine, so I grabbed one of the many books sitting on Ashby's desk and headed towards the staircase. I heard from Alec that Drogo and his daughters were coming today.

He said something about them wanting to help out with finding North, I guess I wasn't paying attention, because I bumped into someone, causing us both to fall.

"Jeez, I'm sorry!" I spoke quickly, I then grabbed my book and looked up, and I swear I died at some point because the person in front of me was an angel, a blonde hair, purple-eyed angel.

"MATE!"
