Jung Soo Yi
the moment yujin and i reached the auditorium, almost all highschool students were already settled on their own seats. the teachers were in front on the stage preparing the projectors, while we were still looking for vacant chairs to occupy.
"students, please settle down." one of our teachers spoke into the mic.
slowly, we noticed the entire high school body lessening down their noise, eventually then becoming quiet.
"here, there's two seats left!" yujin pulled me as we walked towards the middle row of the chairs lined up on the left side of the auditorium.
usually, yujin and i loved to occupy the first few rows on the front so that we could focus on whatever event was happening, but this time we had no choice since we came in quite late.
"as you all know, there's a problem with our building in regards to electricity and we're getting that fixed. in the meantime, we are going to be showing a film, so please do pay attention because we might make you write a reflection essay about it." the teacher announced.
we heard multiple groans from the students, but yujin and i didn't really care much. for us, it was better than having actual classes.
we looked at the screen in front of us, and anticipated what movie they were about to show.
"ah! it's 'the prince of egypt'! i love this movie, it's like my childhood. the soundtrack is also amazing." yujin cheered in excitement.
i also saw the movie once before, but unlike yujin who had it as a childhood favorite, i only came across this movie because one of my grade school teachers had it shown in his class.
"i think i remember this. it's about moses, am i right?" i asked yujin.
"yep! it's that one." she affirmed.
we both kept silent as we tried to watch the movie. i remember liking the movie as well, but my memories of it were already quite vague. in order to answer the essay better, i needed to pay attention.
but all of a sudden, hyunwoo popped up into my mind. i admit he was my crush after all, so i wondered where he could possibly be seated inside the venue. as lowkey as i could, i tried to move my head around to search for him amidst the other high school students present.
after a few minutes of searching with my eyes, i finally caught sight of him seated two rows in front of mine on the other side which was on the right of the auditorium. there was a middle aisle separating the left and the right. however, he was quite near because he was sitting near the edge of his row which made it easier for me to look at him.
without realizing it, i lost track of the movie and got caught up in a daydream by the mere sight of hyunwoo. i was too busy admiring him that i could care less if anyone would already be noticing where i had my eyes fixed on.
i looked beside him and saw that he was with his friends jinyoung, jaebum, and yugyeom who were also focused on the movie.
i shifted my eyes towards the screen in order to lessen the fact that i was quite obvious. however, i still found myself returning my gaze towards hyunwoo. i looked around his side to see if anyone was seeing the way i looked at him, and to my surprise, my eyes met contact with an undesirable person.
lee minhyuk.
it was no other than him, and although i tried to refrain shock from showing through my face, my eyes still spoke louder by the way they widened the moment we shared eye contact. he was seated on the right side, but on the same row with me. worse, he was actually at the edge.
