Jung Soo Yi

days passed and i eventually got better from the colds just in time to enjoy the big sportsfest event in our school.

it was a new week and i came to school in my p.e. uniform just as everyone was expected to. i was definitely anticipating the events where jooheon and minhyuk would be participating today.

last week, they successfully got in the basketball team along with shownu, and that made me completely proud of them.

"soo yi-ah! you tied your hair up!" yujin immediately saw me as i entered the campus and pointed out my hairstyle to which i smiled.

"yep! by the way, where are our batchmates?" i asked.

"at the assembly place. after the opening ceremony, our batch's first events will be women's volleyball against the 8th grade and men's basketball against the 10th grade." yujin informed.

"heol.. i really enjoy volleyball but i already promised jooheon and minhyuk we'd watch their game."

"right? well let's keep our word. on the bright side, you'll be seeing shownu play first thing in the morning!"

i started to smile and walk with yujin to the assembly place of our grade level. the program was starting soon, so every member of the high school student body began to march towards the main field of the school to start the opening ceremony.

i scrunched my face up the moment the sun's rays hit my skin. the heat of the sun was intense, but i'd honestly rather deal with this than have the skies rain on us and make us deal with a muddy field later.

our batch formed three lines, and thankfully, yujin and i were situated near the back of the second line where teachers could barely even see us. i placed my two hands on yujin's shoulders as she was infront of me, and bowed my head down to let her tall figure protect me from the scorching heat.

"yah, get your hands off. stop taking advantage of my height." yujin shook her body playfully.

"at times like this, i'm glad that i'm the shorter one." i teased but did as i was told.

i looked around me for a while and saw other students who wore caps to protect themselves from the heat of the sun. then, it occurred to me that every sportsfest, i always forget to bring my cap.

i just never learn.

i slowly leaned my body to the side and tried to take a peek at the line infront to see what was going on.

all of a sudden, i finally found minhyuk who was already wearing his basketball jersey on top of his p.e. uniform. he was standing around the seventh row of the first line which was to my left.

i smiled to myself upon seeing the sight of him swaying his body from side to side while struggling to pay attention to our teacher's speech under the hot weather.

"hey did you kn--"

i immediately snapped out of it the moment yujin turned back and saw my face. i quickly cleared my throat and laid my eyes on her, giving her my full attention.

"yes?" i asked, but she was already staring at me weirdly.

"yah, jung soo yi. why were you smiling like that?" she asked.

"it's nothing." i shook my head.

"hey, don't lie to me. who were you looking at?" she suddenly turned back and tried to trace the direction, but i quickly held her and stopped her from doing so.

"yah, i saw something funny but it was gone. just go on and tell me what you wanted to say." i tried to convince her.

"eyy, you're acting fishy, huh?" she teased.
