"What," I practically yelled as I was standing in the kitchen after asking Mami if I could go to Lauren's.
"I said you're grounded," she said while not even looking me in the eye and just playing away at the two hundredth level of Candy Crush on her phone.
My jaw was dropped as I just tried to gather myself, "I-But Mami! Lauren leaves tomorrow! This will be the last time I see her."
"Mija, you've been seeing Lauren for three days straight."
I scoffed while showing her my backpack that I had over my shoulder, "If you think I'm not doing my homework, I do it at Lauren's."
"That isn't why your grounded," she said while shaking her head and getting up from her seat to make her way over to the fridge to grab a Diet Coke.
"What? Then why?" I asked her while feeling myself getting anxious thinking of my girlfriend waiting for me at her house.
Lauren has called me asking if I wanted a preview of some of the songs she had for her next album. Of course I said yes, but once I was done with my homework and studying. Then I may have insinuated that we could do other things.
Sex has been very different since my birthday.
Not that I'm complaining.
"You have chores to do. And I need you to babysit Sofia for me. I have to go in and meet with Mrs. Jauregui about a new building plan." She said as she started to make her way to her bedroom.
"Can Lauren come over then?"
"No," she sang while closing the door behind her.
I groaned while walking up to her door, "Mami! You're being unreasonable! Lauren leaves tomorrow. I won't see her for almost a year."
"FaceTime."
"Mami!" I cried as I slide down the wall opposite of her door, "She can help me babysit Sofi. Sofi loves Lauren."
"Karla!" I felt myself tense up from hearing her yell my name, "Ya te deje que no!/ I already told you no!"
Pulling back from the door I sighed as walked back to the kitchen to grab myself a fudge bar from the freezer. "This isn't fucking fair and she knows it."
"Can I have one of those?" I look up to be met with my little sister just looking at me hesitantly.
I chortled to myself as I grabbed another one and handed it to her, "Since I'm babysitting you, desert will be our lunch." I say smirking knowing mom couldn't say anything. Plus she couldn't blame us with the horrible humidity and heat outside. It was a lot to even convince our mother to let me turn on the AC units all over the house. Usually well just open the windows and leave the back door open and have the net door locked to let the air through.
"Sorry you can't see Lauren," Sofi says while sitting at the kitchen table while I'm sat on the counter by the stove.
I furrow my brow before shaking my head, "It's okay, Sof. How about you go to the sala/living room and pick a movie for us to watch. We'll have a sister fun day like old times." I said with a smile forming on my face.
I missed hanging out with the goofball so it shouldn't be bad.
Mami came into the kitchen with her bag in hand and her car keys, "I'll be back late, Karla." She said as she walked over and leaves twenty fives dollars on the kitchen table, "For dinner. Also make sure Sofia has all her homework done and you help her with it."
