CHAPTER 26

From the beginning of this day, I never stopped counting the hours.

Ngayon na yata ang pinakamabagal na oras ng buhay ko. I wanted to fast forward everything and get to the hospital immediately.

"That's it for today..." Agad akong tumayo pagka-dimiss sa'min ng professor.

I ran through the corridors like a robber being chased. Nang maabot ko ang dulo ng hagdanan, bumungad si Xy sa harapan ko. She looked at me with tired eyes and quivering lips.

"Xy..." I muttered.

"Can we talk for awhile?" She held my arms but I politely brushed it off.

Hindi ba, grounded siya? Anong ginagawa niya dito?

As much as I wanted to ask her how she was, I may be one step ahead of finding the truth and it's more important than any other things I would have to hear.

Call me a jerk but the last thing I want to deal with right now is her.

"Some other time, Xyzereanne. Nagmamadali ako." Tumalikod na ako nang may marinig akong kumalabog.

She threw her bag at the wall and all her things were everywhere. Mabuti na lang at wala masiyadong tao sa parteng ito kaya hindi kami nakakukuha ng atensyon.

I sighed.

"Go home, Xy. Please. You might get into more trouble." I tried to pick her bag up but she grabbed me by my arm and tried to kiss me.

"Xy, ano ba? Snap out of it!"

"Damn you! Ano bang mali sa'kin? Why can't you want me back like before? Wala ka na bang nararamdaman para sa'kin?" sigaw niya nang maitulak ko siya at hawakan sa magkabilang balikat oara kumalma.

Madilim ang ilalim ng mga mata niya at nanunuyo ang mga labi niya. No jewelries, no make-up or anything. She looked weak and tired.

Looking at her now, wala na akong nararamdaman para sa kaniya kundi awa. I can no longer see the woman I once loved.

"Hindi ko pa ba nilinaw sa'yo 'yan? Things have changed, Xy. People's feelings change." Simpleng sabi ko.

"But mine didn't, Sych! It's still the same." Nanginginig na ang buong katawan niya kaya bumitaw ako.
Natatakot ako na kapag humawak pa ako, mabali siya o matumba.

"You're so unfair. You moved on and everything's okay, pero heto ako, I'm still chasing you, can't you see?"

"We had our chance. Everything's done and over, Xy. Tama na."

"Pero gusto pa kita!"

"May gusto na akong iba!" Her eyes bore pain.

When she backed off, I turned my back to walk away when she suddenly spoke.

"Si Alyana ba?"

Hindi ako lumingon. Still, I kept walking.

Siguro nga, obvious talaga ako katulad ng sinabi ni Rover.

I tried to shake off what happened and went straight to the hospital. Tinawagan ko si Rover habang naglalakad ako patungo sa kwarto ni Alyana. Naka-ilang ring na ang lumipas pero hindi pa rin siya sumasagot.

Pagpasok ko sa loob, agad kong hinila ang upuan at tumabi sa kaniya. The doctor says she's unconscious but she could hear everything. I reached for her hand and squeezed it gently to let her know I'm here.

"Sarap ng tulog natin, ah?" Tumawa ako.

But when I looked at her face, I felt a pinch in my heart.
