6: a special mission

About a couple months past before Y/n realized. She spent most of the time training, spending time with Nala, and going on missions. With a lot of money saved up, Y/n began sending a little portion back to Hage to help the church.

As Y/n sat at her desk responding to the letter from Sister Lily, Nala came into the room sweaty. Her clothes had a lot of tears in them. She'd be training with Leo a lot lately after his declared rivalry. The two never held back when fighting. Multiple times, Y/n has had to use her magic to heal their burns and bruising.

"Hey, I have a question," Nala said making Y/n look up. The dreadlock headed girl took her shirt off and exchanged it for a clean one. "How come your ears are so pointy?"

"My ears?" Y/n reached up to touch them feeling the small curved point. "Um I don't know. I guess I was born that way- owie!"

Nala harshly pulled Y/n's ear to examine it. She then shouted in it making the girl cringe and punch her in the face.

"So you don't have super hearing or something?" Nala asked while rubbing her nose.

"Any person would feel pain if you shout in their ear!"

"Hmm. I guess so." Nala laughed making Y/n's eye twitch in annoyance. "Let's go get food," the dark skinned girl said.

"I'm not hungry," Y/n said.

"I don't believe that I asked, now let's go." Grabbing the h/c haired girl by her arm, Nala dragged her out of the room to the canteen. For the day's lunch, it was buffet style. The chef set out various foods for the knights to get. Nala settled for just a sub sandwich. Y/n grabbed a water bottle and small pasta bowl.

The two took their usual seat at a table near the back. They choose it cause from it, they had the perfect view of the whole canteen. Nala took a large bite of her sub, moaning in delight.

"I wanna know what kind of bread the chef uses. It's so crunchy and tasty."

Hoshi popped up from Y/n's shirt at the smell of the food. Stretching and yawning, he flew to the plate and took one of Y/n's raviolis. Y/n sighed.

"Has he been in your shirt the whole time?!" Nala exclaimed.

"Aye!" Hoshi cheered.

"Unfortunately," Y/n said. "He sleeps in my cleavage all the time. I've stopped complaining cause it keeps the perv quiet."

"I'm not a perv. You're boobs are just very warm, squishy, and-"

Y/n flicked the sylph across the room making him squeal. Her cheeks turned as bright of a red as the Crimson Lions cloak. Nala laughed.

"You act as if you've never been intimate with someone before," the female said. When Y/n blushed harder, it sent off a lightbulb in Nala's head. "You haven't have you!?"

"Shh!"

"No way! Don't tell me you haven't kissed anyone before? Weren't you and pretty boy from the Golden Dawn a thing?"

"We were just close friends," Y/n stammered.

"I call bullshit. There's no way you'd have the separation anxiety you do if you and him weren't a thing. For crying out loud, the first week you were here, you cried for him in your sleep."

"S-so what," Y/n whispered. "Then what about you and Leopold?"

"W-what?" Nala's nose turned red in embarrassment. "D-don't be ridiculous. Never! We Arenumas are rivals to the Vermilion family."

I can see right through her bullshit, Y/n thought with a sweatdrop. She an Leo are both so stubborn yet painfully obvious. Tsunderes.

Speak of the devil, said orange haired male entered the canteen. He looked around before spotting Y/n and Nala and headed towards them.

"What the hell do you want?" Nala asked. "I don't want your stupidity ruining my food."

"Not like I'd talk to you willingly," Leo scoffed. "My brother wants to see you both."

"Why?" Y/n asked.

"Don't know. He said it was important."

Before Nala could say something smart, Y/n shoved the second half of her sandwich in her mouth making the girl choke.

"Thanks, Leo, we'll head there now," Y/n said with a smile. She grabbed Hoshi by his wing and Nala by her arm, dragging them both out the canteen.

Y/n knocked on the doors to Fuegoleon's office. Months ago, she wouldn't be able to do that. The captain's office intimidated her, and getting called down to it, Y/n always assumed she was in trouble. But it always ended up being Fuegoleon wanting to check on her. She wondered what he wanted since both herself and Nala were called.

There was a stern "Come in" from inside. Fuegoleon sat at his desk surrounded by stacks of paperwork. Otherwise, his office was clean and organized.

"Good, you both are here," the captain said with a smile. "I have a special task for the both of you. In fact, the Wizard King specifically asked for you two."

"R-really?" Y/n stammered.

"Hell yeah! What do we have to do Captain Fuego?" Nala asked excitedly.

Fuegoleon gave them each a paper. On it there was their knight profile picture with a detailed explanation of the mission and their magical abilities.

"A dungeon recently appeared close to enemy territory. You both know what a dungeon is, right?"

"Yes."

"No."

"Y/n, explain what it is for Nala," Fuegoleon instructed.

"A dungeon is basically a magical labyrinth. There are many magical items and artifacts there that possess a lot of power. To keep just anyone from taking them, there are lots of traps throughout the place."

"Since this dungeon is close to the Diamond Kingdom, the Wizard King wants us to investigate it quickly before they can do so."

"I guess that makes sense," Nala said thoughtfully placing her hand on her chin. "We don't want them to get ahold of magical items that can allow them to attack us."

"Exactly. You leave out immediately," Fuegoleon said. Both Nala and Y/n did the magic knight salute before taking their leave to gather supplies. "One more thing," the captain called, "you'll be working with the Golden Dawn and the Black Bulls."

Y/n's heart skipped a beat.

For the first time in months, she'd see both Asta and Yuno again. A couple weeks ago she caught a glimpse of Asta at the market place but never talked to him. This would be their first official reunion since going their separate ways.

Y/n smiled.

She couldn't wait to show them how strong and independent she's become.
