Valentine's Day OVA 2

"I don't understand the purpose of this holiday," Y/n said confused.

Nala sighed for the infinite time. Mimosa only giggled while Noelle shook her head. Valentine's Day was coming up and the girls were shocked (but not surprised) that Y/n had never heard of the holiday. The Arenuma spent the past hour trying to explain the purpose of the day to her, but the h/c-ette didn't seem to get it.

"It's a day dedicated to love!" Nala explained for the umpteenth time. "You give gifts and show love to those that are important to you, such as family, friends or in your case, a boyfriend."

"But, if your significant other is important to you, why must you wait to one day a year to show how much you love them?" Y/n questioned.

Nala slammed her head against the wall, yelling in frustration. "Just buy Yuno a goddamn gift!"

"Then will you be getting Leo something?"

"This ain't about him!" The Arenuma exclaimed. Her face turned as red as her hair.

"Sounds fake, but all right." Y/n deadpanned. "What about you two?" She asked Noelle and Mimosa, who both became flustered. "You getting someone a valentine?"

"Absolutely not! I'm not getting Bakasta anything?" Noelle stammered.

"I never said it had to be Asta specifically."

"I-I uh-"

Y/n sighed. All her friends were hopeless romantics. Noelle and Nala especially were a couple of hardheaded tsunderes who wouldn't admit to their feelings. And they had the nerve to tell her what to do when it came to relationships when they wouldn't even be honest to their own crushes.

"I'm leaving. Yuno and I are meeting up for dinner." With that, Y/n left before giving her friends a chance to respond.

As much as she loved them, they sometimes meddled with her personal life too much. She knew they meant no harm, but sometimes it was annoying. Her and Yuno didn't like to be too public with their relationship and wanted people to respect their privacy.

Y/n used her spacial magic to get to town. She spotted Yuno by the fountain dressed in casual clothing. Both decided to discard their uniforms for something more comfortable on their day off.

"Hey," Y/n called. "Did you wait long?"

"No," was the male's only response. His much larger hand grabbed hers right away. Their fingers intertwined. His cold hand held on tightly.

"Your hands are always so cold," the h/c-ette teased. Yuno didn't say anything, making her frown.

She could tell something was off. He seemed down and distracted. And he acted disengaged during the whole date. Yuno didn't say anything other than one-word responses throughout  dinner. As they went shopping, he seemed sluggish, like every movement took every ounce of energy he had.

He constantly used his wind magic to cool himself off, despite it not being overly hot outside. Y/n at one point tried to give him a kiss, but he turned his face and she only got his cheek.

"Ok Yuno, what's going on with you?" Y/n stopped and asked. She crossed her arms. "You don't seem like you want to be here, and if you don't, that's fine. You should've just said so if you didn't want to go out tonight. You wouldn't have hurt my feelings."

Yuno finally looked her in the eyes for the first time all evening. "Y-y/n," he stammered before all of a sudden, he collapsed.

In a panic, Y/n reached out and grabbed him so he wouldn't hit his head on the concrete. Yuno's golden eyes scrunched shut and he breathed hard. Sweat trickled down his face as his cheeks flushed red from a fever.

"You idiot," Y/n sighed.

She took him back to the Golden Dawn's base on Auriga's chariot. When she arrived, she right away ran into Captain Vangeance, who was heading to a meeting. He kindly showed Y/n to Yuno's room, since she was not acquainted with the base's layout.

"Thank you for looking after my squad member," Vangeance said, smiling as Y/n helped Yuno into his bed.

"It's nothing really," the h/c haired girl said with a faint blush adorning her cheeks. "I'm just annoyed that the idiot pushed himself too much instead of resting."

The captain laughed. "Well, we Magic Knights due tend to be reckless. I trust he'll be in good hands though. Let someone or myself know if a doctor needs to be called."

Y/n gave a slight bow in thanks, and the masked man left, shutting the door. She let out a large exhale. He terrified her. Although he was so friendly, he still was a captain with a ridiculous presence. Something about him seemed odd though, but Y/n wasn't one to pry. Her curiosity had its limits.

Leaving Yuno's room, she went to get a pitcher of water and a bowl. She dipped a towel into the bowl, rung out the excess, and placed it on top of his burning forehead in attempts to cool him off. Y/n cracked the window open just a bit, so it wouldn't feel as hot in his room.

"Y-y/n..." Yuno murmured. He stared up at he through half-lidded eyes. His head pounded and he felt dizzy.

"Why didn't you send a message that you were sick?" Y/n asked sadly. "I would've understood."

"I-it's...Valentines Day. I had to take you out."

The girl sighed but then smiled, running her fingers through Yuno's black locs. "No you didn't dummy. I love you every day, and I'm not waiting until a stupid holiday to show you. You don't have to do the same."

"But-"

"But nothing," Y/n said firmly. "I know there aren't a lot of things we fully understand since we're from the boonies, but that's all right. We don't have to fully conform to the Capital's norms. What we do or don't do may seem odd to others, but all that matters is if we're comfortable and happy."

Yuno gave a weak smile. "What do I do to deserve you?"

"I could say the same thing," Y/n replied. She then stood from the edge of Yuno's bed and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll be right back. Imma head back to my base and get some medicines I made. My Valentine's Day gift to you is nursing you back to health."

Yuno watched her leave his room. He ended up dozing off while waiting for her with a small smile on his face.
