9: diamond kingdom

"Zero gravity!"

Nala and Y/n's bodies instantaneously became light and floated towards the ground. Y/n's unconscious frame laid motionless. Hoshi let out a huge sigh of relief after he released his spell.

"You troublesome woman," Hoshi grumbled flying down to Y/n's face. "How are you gonna be a Magic Knight with such a low guard up?"

"Where'd that attack come from?" Nala asked. Thankfully, Y/n always brought her medical kit on a mission. Finding it at the bottom of her bag, Nala began wrapping the wounds to stop the blood flow.

"We didn't activate a trap," Hoshi said. "It was too precise and only Y/n was hit."

Nala's grimoire flew open defensively. "So that means..."

"Someone was specifically targeting her. The Diamond Kingdom knows we're here."

"We'll be arriving any moment now," Mimosa informed as she studied the map of the dungeon.

The Golden Dawn came to a grand door that was at least several meters high. As they neared it, Yuno slowed down his transportation spell.

"So this is a dungeon..." Klaus said pushing up his glasses. "Guess it's nothing special, huh?"

"How do we get in?" Yuno wondered, trying to focus on his given mission. Ever since they separated from the other two squads, he had this nagging feeling in his chest that something was wrong. The wind mage wanted to turn back to check and ease his apprehension, but he knew Klaus wouldn't let him. So he stayed quiet.

"It seems like neither the Black Bulls nor the Crimson Lions arrived yet," Mimosa stated.

"Naturally, that group would never be faster than us," Klaus boasted.

Suddenly, large crystal diamonds shot from the ground. They pierced through Mimosa's defensive magic, stabbing the orange haired girl before disappearing just as fast. What threw everyone off was how no one had sensed the magic coming.

"Mimosa! Are you alright?" Klaus exclaimed in panic. The girl only groaned and withered in pain. "Who's there?" The glasses wearing noble spun around, trying to locate the attacker.

Footsteps drew close to the trio. Instantly, Klaus and Yuno became on their guards. "Who are you that stands in my way..." It was a young male with spiky light gray hair and lavender eyes. He wore a white and black jumpsuit that exposed a blue crystal on his chest and a black cape with crystals embedded in it. On his forehead was the same crystal.

"Step aside," the male ordered coldly and emotionlessly.

Nala put up her magma wall, shielding her, Hoshi and Y/n from the unknown assailant's attack. Hoshi manipulated the gravity to move the group to safety.

"Only cowards don't show their faces in a fight!" Nala shouted angrily. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw another shot of magic. It had the form of an arrow and moved fast. Quickly, she deflected it with her magma bombs.

Hoshi looked around the dungeon, trying to analyze the space and sense for any disturbances in the area. While he did so, he kept a protective magic shield around Y/n that worked on healing her wounds.
