Song of the Chapter: This is Halloween by the Cast of The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jasmine's POV

October's the time of month that the leaves are changing colors, temperatures that are getting colder, and Paulene being a bit too hyperactive because of Halloween.

Halloween is fun for everyone. For the kids that are trick or treating and for the adults that can relax while their kids are left with a chaperone for a couple of hours.

Kids that are trick or treating is fun for them. For Paulene's age, even better.

Paulene is over excited about Halloween. She even took a day off so that she can make Halloween treats for me and her. She decorated the apartment to the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Every morning, I got scared of something that popped up.

Today's the last day of October, specifically Halloween, so finally, she can take out the decorations.

I sound like a bitch. But I keep up with the tradition because of her family.

After work, I went straight to my bedroom and slept. I didn't take my clothes off at work.

I heard whispering from my ear. “Get up.”

“No, Leo you should deserve a Oscar,” I muttered.

“Leonardo didn't win an Oscar, now wake up.” I heard the voice of Paulene and I woke up seeing Paulene in a zombie face mask.

I screamed for my life and fell on my back. The pain started to come.

She looks down when I fell down. “What are doing down there, best friend?”

“You know, I'm looking under my bed to see if there's any monsters. You scared the living shit out of me!”

“Yes!” She exclaimed. “Now, I can't wait until tonight. I'm going to be scaring everyone in the neighborhood.”

Tonight? What's tonight? And do I have to go with her?

She goes down to my level. “My loving and clumsy best friend, you know what tonight is.”

“Sleep until the next morning?” I questioned.

“Nope, it's trick or treating time.”

I finally got up from my fall and brushed myself off. “Aren't you a bit too old for it?”

“You're never too old to get free candy. And my face,” she pointed at her face. “is a throwback to sophomore year in Nixon.”

On Halloween at our old high school when we were sophomores, Paulene had her face painted just like that. I fell backwards and fell on my butt.

“I would rather fell on my butt, than my back,” I pointed out. “At least I would've had a cushion.”

She laughs. “But really though, you're coming with me to go trick or treating.”

Growing up, my parents weren't fond of Halloween. But I used to love watching the cheesy scary movies that were on Disney Channel.

In theaters, not so much. The last scary movie I'd watched was Carrie. I'd shit my pants and left after thirty minutes of the movie. Then, I'd movie hopped to a less bloody movie.

Halloween is another day for me, but I could make Paulene happy by going with her. Under one condition.

“I'll go, if you go to Ghouls with me.”
