TEN - THE WHITE BUS

TODAY WAS MY FIRST time leaving the house in a while, and it wasn't for a good reason either.

a funeral.

the witches and i, all dressed in formal black dresses, stood over a empty coffin.

"misty's probably twirled her way to the everglades by now, don't bother." madison said to my mother and myrtle as she walked away

a black van rolled up and a girl wearing black got out with a leash in hand. on the end of the leash was a lady wearing the most un-funeral-friendly outfit i'd ever seen.

zoe took my hand and we walked together to see the girl and the lady who followed her like a dog.

ahead of us walked grandma and marie leveau, who was introduced earlier by nana.

"you're alive?" nana asked.

"bitch, you left me for dead." she spat.

"oh girl, i thought you were!" marie said, holding her arms out and hugging the girl.

the lady on a leash spit at marie, who backed up in shock.

"that's for dismembering me." the lady said.

marie slapped her, "and that's for coming back. i thought i told you to put her white head in the trash."

"i had my own ideas." the girl said slyly.

"you put her back together?" zoe asked. "no scars." i added.

"if i would've done you you wouldn't look like you were jammed in a blender." she joked. i rolled my eyes.

"the most important thing is that you're safe." cordelia smiled at the girl.

"none of us are safe!" nana corrected, "why can't you understand that? this funeral is over."

despite all the anger and worry around me, i couldn't help but to focus on zoe. her straight brown hair fell onto her shoulders and her soft skin was covered by a black dress. she looked beautiful with the sunshine on her face. i couldn't help but admire her.

the lady on a leash said some words of anger and marie dragged her along by her leash like a dog that wasn't budging.

zoe glanced at me with a small smile as we walked together holding hands, along with everyone else.

"good morning, billie." mom greeted

"your eyes are gone." i said.

she sighed sadly at the mentioning of her eyes and put a plate of strawberries in front of me, "when your well you will understand the sacrifices a witch must make for her coven."

"sacrifice?" I asked.

"for example, myrtle snow burned alive for the coven. and i need my third sight so i can help see what isn't in front of me." she explained.

i ate some of the strawberries and watched as she washed dishes.

"will i ever make a sacrifice?" i asked.

she gave me a small smile, "i don't know."

"-but what's important is that you serve this coven, anything you can do is helpful."

"like what?" i asked.

"well, practicing your abilities will help a great bit, fiona told me that you gained resurgence." she replied.

"oh yeah." i smiled.

i finished the last of the strawberries and moved the plate and fork to the dishwasher.

zoe was stood by the bed, neatly packing clothes into her suit case. i watched closely as her hands worked quickly to fold the fabric.

"billie, the bus leaves in like a hour. you have to finish packing!" she ordered.

i sat at the edge of the bed staring down at my hands. i can't leave.

"do you want me to do it?" she asked, walking over to me.

"i'm not going." i muttered.

"what are you talking about?" she asked.

"i'm afraid." i admitted.

"of what? me?" she scoffed.

"of me," i sighed, "of me hurting you or somebody else. i have these feelings inside that i can't control." a few tears fell down my face between words.

i hid my face in my hands and cried into them, i felt zoe's hand on my shoulder.

"i'm not scared of you." she whispered.

"put the rest of your things in my bag and put your shoes on. we're leaving just like planned." she said.

"i love you, zoe, but that's not your desision." i said, standing up.

zoe gently pulled me back down and sighed. she put her hands on my shoulder.

"more happy love." she whispered, playing with my hair, "more happy, happy love."

i harshly pulled on her face, she gasped. i looked in her eyes and they weren't filled in fear, they were filled with love.

i gently kissed her on the lips and she returned the gesture.

zoe and i bolted through the ecpot, our hands were entwined together as we pulled our suitcases along.

we stopped infront of a white bus and handed our tickets to a man. he nodded and we entered the bus.

we sat in the first seats we saw and we both smiled to ourselves.

i'm running away with zoe benson.
