Chapter Eleven | Don't You Dare Pull Away
Aurora didn't stop moving until the roar of the river vanished behind her. Her heart was clenching painfully, chest rising and falling rapidly as she finally stopped moving. Her blood was boiling beneath her skin, vision turning red as she growled out. Before she knew what was happening she had punched a nearby tree, pain exploding as the force of the hit vibrated her bones. She didn't stop though. She kept punching, releasing screams of anger, hurt and confusion.
Why did Bellamy have to be so bipolar? One second he's sweet and funny, the next he's cold, arrogant and such a dick. She could never win with him. She was either doing something to piss him off or he was hurting her heart to the point where she hated him.
She kept punching the trees with both fist. Kept punching until her knuckles were bloody. Until her hands were stinging in pain. Tears were falling very slowly, some managing to escape without her consent. The more she punched the less her anger was and before she knew it, her anger was gone.
Then she was left, sobbing as she slid down the tree, hands throbbed painfully as she kept her arms tucked into her chest. She barely even noticed when Clarke crouched down in front of her, eyes worried and sad for her friends pain. Clarke remained silent and still until Aurora's sobs had dried down, sniffles leaving the girl as she finally pulled her watery eyes open. Clarke didn't say a word as Aurora held her gaze. "I hate him, I hate him so much." Aurora couldn't even count how many times her voice had cracked in that one sentence. She knew her words were lies. For some reason she couldn't stay away from Bellamy Blake, even if she had wanted too, and now that she had remembered him up on the Ark she knew staying away had just gotten 100 times harder.
Clarke smiled sadly, plopping onto her butt as she sat in front of Aurora. "If it makes you feel any better, I just slapped him."
Aurora released a half sob, half chuckle. "You did?"
"Yep." Clarke answered, popping the 'p' for effect.
Aurora took in a calming breath, wiping her cheeks harshly. "My brother knew him."
"He did?" Clarke seemed surprised and that only made Aurora feel less stupid for not having known this before either.
"They worked in the guard together. I-" She choked on her voice, hesitant to share the details of her memory. She felt like such a fool for not remembering her encounter with Bellamy on the Ark. Maybe it was the trauma of the fire, or the fear of going to jail that made her mind block it out until now. Aurora wasn't sure.
Clarke noticed the hesitation, eyes softening as she grabbed Aurora's hand gently, avoiding the gashes on her knuckles. "Rory, you can tell me."
"I just- I feel stupid for not remembering until now." Aurora started softly, staring down at her lap as she started. Clarke listened intently, giving Aurora the time to speak. "The day after the fire... When James was in the hospital... I was with Dexter, I hadn't been arrested yet. It was when he told me James wasn't dead. I don't know how I forgot this but... Bellamy was there, he ran into us and..." Aurora paused thinking back to the newfound memory. Bellamy had known instantly that James had beat her, and maybe that was how he had known about it when they had first talked so many days ago. "I was..." Aurora squeezed her eyes shut tight, Clarke gently squeezing the girls hand in reassurance.
"You can stop if you want." Clarke's voice was gentle, comforting.
Aurora shook her head, pulling her eyes open. "No, I want too."
Clarke looked unsure but nodded anyway. "Okay."
Aurora sucked in a calming breath, cleared her throat as she glanced back down. "I looked horrible. There were bruises everywhere and cuts. I had thought at first that he was going to arrest me but Dexter knew him. They were friends. I don't know how but Bellamy knew that James had beat me and he... he wanted to help us. The guards were waiting on James to wake up so that they could get his side of the story... Me and Dexter knew he was going to have me arrested, floated... Like he did my mom." Aurora was silent as the air around her thickens, suffocating her. She didn't like to think about her Mom. Didn't want to even say her name, for that would bring up the memories. Aurora felt the sudden urge to hum her Mother's lullaby, but knew now wasn't the time. Instead she let the tune play in her head, slowly relaxing as she released a sigh. She met Clarke's eyes then. "Bellamy wanted to help. The last thing I remember is Bellamy saying he had an idea. I've been trying to think back to that day, to try in anyway to remember the rest but I just can't."
