Chapter Twenty-Two | Mutually Assured Destruction.
"The coms are still dead." Clarke announced as she entered the dropship. "They cut out during the pageant."
"Obviously, Clarke." Aurora snapped. She was sitting in a chair, leg bouncing a mile a minute.
Clarke turned her eyes to Aurora's anxious face. Bellamy was standing besides the girl but he seemed at a loss of what to do. There was really no way he could help Aurora. Her brother had been there and they had all just witnessed a bomb go off.
Dexter could be dead.
Clarke sighed, not taking Aurora's snappy-ness to heart. "Dexter has to be okay, Rory."
Aurora swallowed hard, glancing down at her hands. Clarke could see the girl pushing back tears but said nothing of it as she took a seat of her own.
"Best Unity Day ever." Bellamy remarked dryly, earning two very dark glares from the girls in the room.
Clarke glanced outside the tent at the kids. They were all enjoying themselves despite the fact that people just blew up. Monty's moonshine seemed to be doing the trick with easing tension but Clarke was sure it eased their tension too much. "Do you really think now is a good time to be having a party?"
"No," Aurora snapped, closing her eyes to suck in a sharp breath. "It's not a good time but since when did anyone down here actually care when people died?"
Clarke pursed her lips. "And I mean... The Grounder is still out there."
Aurora shuddered as she thought about the Grounder they had captured, the same one who almost killed her and Finn. He was out there, and everyone knew for a fact that was Octavia's fault. The girl had taken advantage of the fact that everyone but her was high on those nuts and wouldn't notice. It was smart, Aurora would give her that but it was also stupid. Aurora didn't know what weird jacked up relationship the two shared while he chained her to a pole but Aurora thought Octavia was dumb for trusting the man. He was probably pissed about the whole torture thing and angry Grounders was never a good sign. He knew where their camp was and he could bring back an army any time he pleased.
"Grounders." Bellamy scoffed, rolling his eyes in anger. "By now, he's made it home. He's probably putting together a lynch mob." Bellamy paused at the worried looks Clarke and Aurora were sporting. He grinned then. "Relax. I got security covered." Bellamy motioned to the rowdy kids outside. "Why don't you go grab a drink? You look like you could use one."
Clarke glanced longingly out the door, wishing to be as carefree as the rest of them. Overall, it sucked being a leader. "I could use more than one."
"Then have more than one." Bellamy shot back, giving the girl a pointed look. "The Exodus ship carrying your mother comes down here in two days. After that, the party's over. Have some fun while you still can, you deserve it."
Clarke looked more than convinced as she got to her feet. She turned to leave but stopped, sending both Bellamy and Aurora a soft look. "So do you guys by the way."
Bellamy licked his lips as Aurora looked down at her hands again. Bellamy narrowed his eyes. "I'll have my fun when the Grounders come."
"All right." Clarke rolled her eyes but still left nonetheless.
Once she was gone Bellamy sagged, rubbing a hand down his jaw. "Unity Day." He scoffed to himself as Aurora moved to grab Monty's special moonshine from the Ground. Aurora had almost shattered the whole jar when she heard the explosion but Bellamy was quick enough to grab it from her. As she twisted open the lid and took a giant gulp she felt grateful Bellamy had saved her alcohol. The liquid burned it's way down her throat as she spun the open jar in her hands. The glass was cool against her fingertips, a cold comparison to the sweat that was hanging off her every pore. She held the glass out to Bellamy, the boy frowning as he took his own gulp. His face twisted as he handed it back to her. "I don't know how your drinking this."
