Chapter Thirty-Six | We Are Not Grounders.
Aurora narrowed her eyes and tightened her hold on the sword, preparing herself for swings. She scanned the moving people, quick to spot a Grounder slicing someone's throat. Aurora is quick and fast as she approaches, screaming out as he finally sees her. He's too late as his eyes widen, her sword slicing through skin and bone so swiftly. Blood hit her face as she stared at the man. He was dead, gravity taking a moment to pull his head to the ground. It rolled away, leaving blood in its wake as his body crashes to his knees and falls. Aurora is breathing hard as she glares at the corpse, her chest rising and falling. Her narrowed gaze scans again and without a second thought, Aurora is slicing her way through Grounders.
Every hit is a kill shot.
Slice off a head...
Slit a throat...
Right through the stomach...
Take off their legs...
Her mind is only filled with command after command, her sword drenched in blood as she moves. Blood sticks to her skin and clothes, almost every inch of her. So much blood... not a single wound on Aurora though.
She feels no hesitation as she acts, no thoughts. She was in her own mode. No emotions messing her up, no people distracting her, and only one goal. She knew what she had to do and that was kill. Aurora didn't care how many lives she had to take if it saves their people, her friends...
She couldn't lose.
She wouldn't.
"There are too many!" Miller screamed out, "Everyone to the dropship now!"
"NO!" Clarke then cried out through every radio. "We need more time! Gunners, stay at your posts!" Clarke was then standing in the dropship doorway. "The rest of you inside! Come on! Move!"
Clarke ushered kids inside, frantic eyes spotting Bellamy fighting away. She kept scanning only to spot Aurora twisting through the crowd. Her movements are fast and precise, too quick for the Grounders. Most of them don't even see it coming. Clarke swallows as Aurora swings her blade right into a Grounder's rib cage, twisting it slowly. Blood pours from the wound and in seconds he's drenched. He hits the ground mere seconds later, but by then Aurora and her sword had already moved on.
Clarke's voice caught her attention, the girls words making Aurora frown.
"WE ARE NOT GROUNDERS!" Clarke shouted, kids cheering in agreement.
Aurora felt her mind wander to all the bodies she had dropped so far. She could suddenly feel their warm blood and hear their screams or pleas. Her sword felt like a brick in her hand, heavy. She had killed so many of them already. Clarke was right, they weren't Grounders... And here Aurora was stooping to their level, letting herself become a monster.
What had happened to her?
Had the ground really changed her this much?
Why couldn't she even remember how many people she had killed?
How did she wear their blood with no regret? No remorse?
Why was their a darkness inside her?
Then the sky booms.
It gets everyone's attention as eyes turn. It's so distracting that Aurora snaps out of her head space. Suddenly, she's not thinking about killing, she's thinking about the boom. The boom is deafening as something black starts hurtling towards earth. Aurora managed to stop and stare besides Bellamy of all people, her eyes wide. Something was coming down and it wasn't another dropship.
