Chapter Twenty-Eight | Peydi
Aurora and Finn raced towards the bridge. They hadn't seen a glimpse of Raven yet, meaning she was probably already there. What Aurora didn't understand was why Raven had left with the bomb like that. Was she really that against the idea of Finn planting it?
If she was so worried about him getting hurt why would she want to put herself in danger?
Love.
Obviously Raven still loved Finn, against better judgement and Aurora could understand her choice. If Bellamy and her had been in the same position she was sure she'd do the same thing.
"She has to already be on the bridge." Aurora mumbled, pausing with Finn at noise in the distance. The pair shared a wide eyed look at the loud banging and screams.
"War drums." Finn breathed.
That meant that the Grounder's were close. They had to be marching this way, which means they don't have much time to blow that bridge.
Finn raced forward, Aurora following. "Running towards the war drums. Great plan."
They reached a hill, both pausing to stare down at the stone bridge. Just as Aurora had suspected Raven was down there, crouched a few feet from their side of the bridge. She had the tin and jar, hands moving as she pulled the bomb together. The only issue? The girl had blood pouring down her face.
She's sick.
"Shit." Aurora breathed.
"Raven!" Finn cried, moments away from running to the girl.
"She's still building the bomb." Aurora was quick to grab his arm when he moved forward. "Wait, no. She's got this."
Raven had built the thing, she was the best person to set it up. Less room for mistakes.
"No." Finn was shaking his head as he stared at Raven.
The girl looked like she was struggling and Aurora felt fear bubble in her chest. Raven was sick, she had just gotten the virus and that makes her at her weakest. If she passed out...
Aurora felt her heart stop when Raven fell over. "Raven! Get out of there!" Aurora throat hurt from how hard her scream had ripped through.
Finn turned to Aurora. "Line up the shot."
Aurora nodded, releasing Finn's arm. He was quick to sprint down the hill as Aurora set the gun up on the ground. She was quick to lay on her stomach and bring the scope to her eyes, moving the small dot so that it rested over the tin can. She grabbed the handle and positioned her finger over the trigger, undoing the safety.
She took in a calming breath.
She could do this.
She watched through the scope as Finn finally reached Raven, pulling the girl to her feet and wrapping a secure arm around her waist. Raven leaned into him as he then pulled her away from the bomb. They needed to be two hundred feet away.
Did they have the time?
Aurora moved the scope some, eyes widened as she could just barely see the Grounder's approaching the bridge. She quickly lined up the shot again, taking in more deep breaths.
"Aurora!" Finn screamed from below. "Take the shot! Take it!"
"I can do this." Aurora mumbled. She closed one eyes tight and put the dot on the can. She could feel her fingers shaking as she took in another deep breath.
"Take the goddamned shot!"
She pressed the trigger.
The shot rang out loud.
