Bhai, Bhabi and I were sitting in the lounging area in our backyard drinking Chai after we ate. Ammi had left to sleep, and so had Abbu.

"So Huda, Ammi told me they're looking for matches for you," Bhabi said smiling at me.

"Ugh, yeah," I said.

"Ugh?" She asked.

"I don't seem to have any interest in any of the guys that send in a proposal."

"Is it because of someone?" Bhai asked.

"What?" I said.

Well maybe it was, it could be because I was so busy admiring Dr. Khan from work.

"Uh-huh, Is it Dr. Khan?" Bhai asked.

"Ye- WHAT!"

HOW?

WHAT?

WHEN?

"You stared at him a little too long to not like him earlier." My brother said smirking at me.

I pursed my lips. I'm so careless.

"Well, It could be..." I started.

I sat up and decided to tell everything to them.

"So I met him at the rooftop, where we accidentally got locked, he was a little serious at first, but then he turned out to be nice. He gave me his coat the day of the rooftop incident because it was so cold, and then we even went to a school as guest speakers together- he was easy to talk to. It's just I couldn't talk to him because I was so neurotic around him."

"I saw him around multiple times after that,  like when I saw him around the operation theatre being so encouraging to parents, and when he stepped up in front of me to stop this lady from pushing me. Just day by day just seeing him makes me so happy." I said.

They both looked at me smiling slightly.

"Don't tease me, this is weird as it is," I said.

"I think you should do something more about it," Bhabi said.

"Like?" I asked

"Well, Humza is a great man. He does have a daughter though, and I am aware of his other backstories. But I think he should be the one to tell you this." Huzaifah said.

"Is it weird if we send a rishta?" Bhabi asked Bhai.

"It isn't, we could If you want," Bhai said pointing at me.

"Well, he did say he wanted to see you again. Maybe you can call him over for lunch or something.." I said blushing a little bit.

"Look at you go," Bhabi said smirking at me.

I rolled my eyes at her.

"I'll ask him for this Saturday," Huzaifah said.

I nodded at him.

-

It was now Monday, and I was at the hospital. I came out of the operation theatre and saw Jacob coming out of the other one at the same time- but with a scowl.

Well, that's new, He never frowns.

"Jacob!" I called out to him

He looked at me walking towards me.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I'm supposing you know about Ruth?" He asked as we walked to the lounge area.

"I do," I said.

"Once she told me, she has been avoiding me. But today she came to work with some guy drop her off." He said.

"So why doe it matter?, She's just your friend," I said.

"Her appearance is also changing, she used to look so naive, and cute- and now she's changing into this different girl who curls her hair and puts on eyeshadow every day."

"Well, why does it matter?"

"I don't know!"

"Now that she confessed, do you see her differently?" I asked,

"Yeah, but I- it- it isn't-" He stammered.

"I think now that you know she likes you, your past feelings for her are coming back," I said.

"How can feelings from freshman year come back?"

"Maybe you didn't lose them as well as you thought," I said.

"But, Ruth hasn't been with anyone since freshmen year, so I think she's going to start trying to get over you too now. If you feel something- anything, you should tell her."

"I'll see," He said putting his head into his hands.

The door opened, and Dr. Khan walked in. As our eyes locked for a quick second, as my heart jumped like always. He poured himself some coffee and left the room when he finished.

My eyes falling on his back, as he left the room.

My phone ringed, and I took it out.

Room 21B.

"I have to go now Jacob, cheer up okay?," I said leaving the room as well.

I walked to the room the patient needed me in and knocked on the door.

"Dr. Siddiqui, she won't stop crying." The nurse said as she came to me in a panic.

I looked at the five-month-old that screamed in her mother's arms.

I walked towards the child and put on my glove. I took my index finger and rubbed against the child's lower gums- as she stopped crying instantly biting my finger.

"Her tooth is coming out, she's in pain," I said.

"Get her some teething devices and soothing gel," I said to her mother.

The nurse walked over to me giving me an oral pain reliever.

I took some onto my finger rubbing it against her swollen gums. I took my finger out and the baby was now calm.

I smiled at her and threw my glove away.

"Yeah, she's fine. Just teething a bit soon." I said.

I left the room and received another ting from my phone- and my day went by ring after ring.
