Yes, it was the day after I "broke up" with Dr. Khan. Damn, I was tired of crying. It felt as if a little bit of me died, and I wondered how girls dealt with break-ups. I told myself that this was better and for the happiness of Dr. Khan and Haniah- like I always did and continued to try to live life like before. Life goes on, and I had to deal with it.

"He'll be here at least four days, but that depends on his improvement," I said

"It's not that serious right?" She asked nervously.

"Yes Ma'am it's a very common case of Pneumonia, he'll be fine," I replied.

"HUDA!" Zahra and Jacob barged in.

I looked at them putting my hand out trying to signal "What the heck you guys?"

"I'm sorry about that, do you have any questions?" I asked the patient's mother.

"It's okay, no I don't. Thank you." She said smiling at me offering me a handshake.

I shook her hand and she exited the office. I immediately looked at the two as if they were children who needed to explain themselves for what the had done- hand on my hip I furrowed my brows at them.

"What?" I said.

"Oh My God, so." Zahra began.

"Take a seat, this one is interesting," Jacob added.

"Jacob and I went to the police station yesterday and we saw Mariam talking to a man, and he looked very similar to who you described to me last week," Zahra said.

"I took a picture," Jacob said, taking out his phone and unlocking it.

"You did?" Zahra asked.

He smirked at her.

"Good Job Buddy!" She high-fived him.

"I'm getting detective vibes, might quit my doctor career." He added giving me his phone.

I looked at the picture and indeed it was Mariam talking to the same man from the other day, the conversation didn't look as if she was in danger but rather as if she was telling him something.

"So she knows him?" I said.

"Yeah definitely, they were having a very normal conversation- but we didn't hear what it was about."

"Maybe, if we had those parabolic microphones cops use we could've," Jacob added scoffing.

"Is she lying? We need to find out what all of this is about?" I said.

"YES! We can sneak around and wear all black, have walkie talkies and code names for each other. Like for me, I will be Agent Flare."

I chuckled at his silliness, and Zahra rolled her eyes.

"Huda, you should talk to her and ask some questions about stuff she has told you so far. She worked at a diner right, ask her which one. Maybe take a bigger leap, and ask who the loan sharks were." Zahra said.

"Your right,"

"Jacob what are you doing?" I added looking at him writing something on my sticky notes.

"Hi Mariam, I'm Detective Jacob may I ask you a few questions?" He said.

He looked at the sticky notes and then got back into his character.

"Your past job was at a diner correct? I would like to know which." He added.

As Jacob acted, an idea came into my head.

"Jacob have you met Mariam before?" I asked,

"Nah, don't want to. I hate her." He said.

I gave him a 'stop it' look.
