Chapter 29
Later that morning I was sat with Bella in my arms, discussing what we would do about school. Bella wasn’t keen to go back so soon but the rest of us knew the drill.
“But can’t we all just get, like, student jobs or something? Pretend we’re on a gap year?” She looked to me with pleading eyes, “Please?”
I nodded in agreement, “Rose and Emmet got away with it,” I squeezed Bella gently.
“I think you all deserve time off,” Esme agreed with a smile, “And, I’ve been thinking,”
She thought about a fuzzy human memories, a school house where she had worked for a few months before having her son.
Esme glanced to me and bit her lip, “And, I’m going to go and study to become a teacher.”
Alice squealed and clapped her hands, I laughed at her thoughts.
“Where are we planning on moving to?” Ness asked.
Rose sighed, “Where haven’t we been in a while?”
“There’s plenty of places we could go back to,” I interjected, “Chicago, Rochester, Columbus,” Esme smiled at the mention of her home town. I glanced over to Alice as she zoned out, picturing a small farm house on the edge of the city, not far from the forest, I recognised it from both Carlisle’s and Esme’s memories. Looking to Esme I sighed, when she had died her parents had sold her childhood home and moved in to the city, the owner of the house had never changed it obviously.
Alice frowned and looked to me, “Where was that?”
I smiled and looked to Esme, “I seem to recall that the oak tree you saw was once climbed by a little girl who fell out of it and broke her leg.”
Esme laughed and looked to Alice and then back to me, “You mean it’s still there?”
I nodded, “Of course, if you don’t want to,” I trailed off as Esme shook her head.
“Of course I want to!” She exclaimed.
Carlisle smiled and looked to me, Thanks.
“I told you it would come in handy some day,” I shrugged with a smirk.
Can we go hunting now? Emmet asked in his head.
“You can Emmet,” I told him, “I’m staying here.”
Bella shook her head, “You go and hunt, you look like you need it.”
Carlisle should go too, Esme was thinking. I sighed and got up, Jasper was also thinking about joining us, “We’ll make it a boys hunt.”
“Woo!” Emmet jumped up and was out of the door, calling as he went, “See you later Rose!”
“Promise you’ll come back this time dad?” Ness joked as I hugged her.
Jasper laughed, “Don’t worry, we’ll keep him out of trouble.”
“You’d better!” Bella smiled, “No throwing him a bears!”
I vaguely remembered the camping trip she was referencing and winced as all the girls remembered their worry.
“We’ll be back later.”
I wasn’t interested in running with Jasper and Emmet, they had both gone ahead, racing each other to get the best game. I hung back with Carlisle, running at his pace so we could talk, I’d missed this, just talking with him and reminiscing.
