Chapter 14
As the sun began to rise Esme and I got up and dressed, she had told me that she felt better in herself but still wanted to hunt. We had agreed to see everyone else before we went, I held Esme’s waist as we walked at a leisurely pace to the other cottage.
“Kissed and made up then?” Ness smiled when she saw us nearing.
“I think they did a little more than kissing.” Emmet muttered getting a whack around the head from Rose.
“We realised we hadn’t prioritised things the way we should have,” Esme told them, “We’re good now.”
“How’s your leg Edward?” I asked him.
“Still sore but not as bad,” He shrugged.
I looked to Tia and Benjamin, “I assume you put the fire out?”
“We were coming to pay a visit, it looks like we couldn’t have timed it more perfectly.” Benjamin nodded.
“Thank you, we owe you our lives.” Esme smiled to them.
I looked to my pocket as my mobile rang and I just knew what it was, if the hurricane had hit the whole town there would be a huge influx of patients at the hospital. Esme squeezed my hand, “Go, they need you.”
“Are you sure?” I sighed, “I don’t have to.”
“Yes, you do.” She insisted, “Just come home tonight.”
“I will,” I leant down and kissed her quickly before going.
“Hello?” I answered my phone.
“Did it come your way last night?” Will, my boss and a good friend, asked.
“Yeah, destroyed the main house.” I sighed, “Otherwise I’d have come straight over.”
“We’re getting a lot in now, people being dragged from debris and such.” He explained.
“I’m on my way now, it’s only a ten minute walk.” I told him.
“Thanks Carlisle, I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t need it.”
“It’s not a problem.”

“Male, fifteen, children's home …” I’d only been in ten minutes and I was already on my third patient. The emergency department had been swamped all night with people coming in as soon as the weather cleared. Something I had overheard was bothering me, since when did Alaska get hurricanes? It was extremely rare and not even hurricane season!
I was soon distracted by a young patient who had been pulled from the wreckage of the children's home, he reminded me a lot of Edward, bronze hair, green eyes and a few features that reminded me of him. He had a metal pole sticking right through one leg and was in an extreme amount of pain.
I decided it would be best to keep him conscious while we scanned his leg to check where the pole had damaged.
“We can’t x-ray it.” Jan, my head nurse was saying, “Nor can we MRI scan it, I suggest an ultrasound?”
“Yeah,” I nodded as my phone rang, Alice, “I need to get this, can you get him some morphine and the patient in bed two needs antibiotics.”
“I’ll sort it, you get that call,” Jan smiled to me as I headed out to the front of the hospital.
