Chapter 35

Esme smiled happily as we turned off the main road and on to the long winding driveway that was thickly lined by fruit trees on either side. All the other cars were parked randomly on the gravel outside the front of the house. No doubt there would be an argument about who got which space in the large garage that had been a barn attached to the northern side of the house until Esme had restored and converted it.

As always she had done a spectacular job of restoring the mismatched bricks and wood that made up the large building, we had agreed to not have separate cottages at this time, the house was big enough that we would all have plenty of space and there were several out buildings that we could always escape to if needed.

The most central part of the building had a veranda that looked out on to the drive, a swinging seat was already set up there with cushions to make it more comfortable. The frosted glass front door was pegged open by a box that Emmet had bought in the jeep so I expected the kids were already inside choosing rooms.

I hadn’t been allowed to see the finished design but had a good idea of what Esme had planned. She had designed each of the four main bedrooms to fit each of our couples. She had purposefully given the two rooms on the northern side of the house the largest wardrobes and en-suites for Alice and Rosalie. One of the rooms had been decorated with purple and white accents and the other navy and yellow. Guessing from Alice’s squeal as we walked in the door, she was happy with the room she had chosen. I knew Esme had been desperate to find just the right shade of brown to decorate one of the rooms on the southern side of the house and would be happy to bet that it was for Edward’s and Bella’s room. The final room I hadn’t been allowed in at all, Esme had completely banned me from it.

On each side of the foyer, glass and oak staircases lead up to the second floor. The glass panels framed with the wood continued around the balcony that joined the each side of the second floor. The central part of the house was only made up of a single floor, with each of the wings having two to house all the bedrooms.

Esme stepped to my side, “Come on, the kids can unpack.”

I took her hand as she lead me to the southern wing, the furthest out bedroom, closest to the woods. This was the room I had been banned from completely. Esme rested her hand on the brass door handle and smiled, “Ready to see our room?”

I nodded to her and she pushed the white door open for me to step inside.

I looked around the room, it looked meant for a young girl, the walls were half white, half pink. The arched windows along the outer wall were covered by light pink, lace curtains. Flowery, cream, and pink, cushions were scattered over a window seat on the adjacent wall to the one with the curtains. The metal bed frame was twisted in an intricate pattern, and it’s frilly bedsheets were covered with a patchwork blanket, matching the theme running through the room. Esme walked past me and trailed her fingers over the white chest of drawers, smiling softly, “It’s all exactly as I left it, of course, I cleaned up some of the dust.”

I frowned and looked around, “This was your room?”

Esme nodded and smiled, “I couldn’t bear to change it,” she stepped over to what I assumed was the walk in wardrobe and pushed the door open, “So…”

I followed her in to the wardrobe and caught her disappearing up a spiral staircase in to the attic. The walls and ceiling were painted white with red patters scrawled across them delicately. The room with bright with natural light from the mostly glass, sloped ceiling. The dark wooden headboard was offset against the light creams of the bedding but matched the red cushions perfectly.

I looked to Esme as she span in to my arms and leant up to kiss me, “There’s an en-suite in the wardrobe we came through,” She pointed to the far corner of the room, “And those steps go straight to the lounge.”

I chuckled and leant down to kiss her gently, “It’s perfect.”

We pulled apart as there was a shout from downstairs, “Emmett!”

Esme sighed and smiled, “We’d better go and see.”

I kissed her once more and whispered, “Tonight, my love.”

“Yeah,” Esme sighed and turned to the stairs that lead to the lounge.

The lounge was open yet still fashioned to the farm house. As in most of the houses Esme renovated she had knocked out one of the walls and replaced it completely with glass windows and doors. The walls were made of old stone which moulded in to the fireplace. The L shaped sofa was positioned facing the fire, with a coffee table in front of it.

Above the fire place Emmett was trying to install a frame to hang the flat screen on. Esme shooed him away with a wave of her hands, “It’s not going there!”

Edward came over to me and folded his arms, “Shall we take him out of harms way?”

“Sounds like a plan,” I nodded with a smirk, “Emmett, come on, we’re going to have a look around.”

“Bet I can find a clearing first!” Emmett exclaimed as he ran out of the sliding glass door.

Edward rolled his eyes as we followed him, “No doubt he’ll make one if he can’t.”

I laughed in agreement as we ran. Leaving the girls and Jasper to move in.

Sorry it's short
