Surah Muhammad (Arabic: سورة محمد) is the forty seventh surah. It is a madani sura of the quran located in its twenty sixth juz. It is called "Muhammad" because the name is mentioned in its second verse.
The main theme of the sura consists in characteristics of believers and disbelievers, and their fate in the afterlife. A well-known verse of the sura is the verse seven concerning how god supports believers. And its fourth verse concerning the prohibition of killing prisoners of wars and their release without a payment or in exchange for a ransom counts as a jurisprudential verse.
Rewards for the recitation of this sura include immunity from poverty and drinking from heavenly springs.
The Chapter has thirty eight Verses and is revealed at Mecca. The title of the Chapter derives from the second Verse in which mention is made of the name of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (S). The dominant theme of the Chapter is jihad against the enemies of Islam hence Its designation "The Chapter of Battle" (Surah al-Qital).
The main subject matter concerns believers and disbelievers, comparing the twain in this world and the world to come, and the hypocrites' sabotage in Medina. Mention is also made of issues regarding the captivity and freedom of the prisoners of war, call to spend money in Allah's Cause, and forbidding obsequiousness and complacency in dealing with the enemy.
It is narrated that whoever wishes to perceive the circumstances of the Prophet's (S) Household (as) and their enemies is supposed to recite the Chapter in question. It is also reported that the Noble Prophet (S) would recite the Chapter in his evening prayers.
According to a Prophetic tradition
"One who recites Sura Muhammad, God will provide him with the streams of Paradise."

Lessons/Teachings
Muhammad was the son of Abdallah ibn Abd al-Muttalib and his wife Amina, both of the Hashim clan of the dominant Kuraish (Quraysh) tribal federation. Muhammad was orphaned soon after birth, and was brought up by his uncle Abu Talib. When he was 24, he married Khadija, a wealthy widow much his senior; he had no other wife in Khadija's lifetime. Khadija's daughter Fatima was the only child of Muhammad to have issue. His position in the community was that of a wealthy merchant.
When he was 40, Muhammad felt himself selected by God to be the Arab prophet of true religion. The Arabs, unlike other nations, had hitherto had no prophet. In the cave of Mt. Hira, N of Mecca, he had a vision in which he was commanded to preach. Thereafter throughout his life he continued to have revelations, many of which were collected and recorded in the Qur'an. His fundamental teachings were: there is one God; people must in all things submit to Him; in this world nations have been amply punished for rejecting God's prophets, and heaven and hell are waiting for the present generation; the world will come to an end with a great judgment. He included as religious duties frequent prayer and almsgiving, and he forbade usury.
