101: (Al-Qari'ah)- The Clatterer

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim.

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. All the praises and thanks be to Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn . The Only Owner of the Day of Recompense. You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help. Guide us to the Straight Way. The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace , not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray .

101: (Al-Qari'ah)- The Clatterer 

(The Calamity)Number of Verses: 11

Sūra al-Qāriʿa (Arabic: سورة القارعة) is the 101th sura of the quran. It is a makki sura which is located in the juz thirty. The term "al-Qari'a" is stated in the first verse which is one of the names of the day of resurrection and it means catastrophe.

This sura of Qur'an is about the Day of Resurrection and its incidents, it also speaks about the rewards for good deeds and the punishments for and evil deeds. According to narrations, if someone recite this sura, he will be rewarded in the Day of Resurrection.

This Surah, on the whole, describes the Resurrection Day and its preliminary events. The style is alarming and awakening with some clear warnings. According to this Surah, people are divided into two definite groups: Those whose good deeds weigh heavy by the Divine Scales will rejoice in a pleasant life; and those whose good deeds weigh light will have the abyss as their abode.

The name of the Surah, Al-Qariah, is taken from the first verse.

On the virtue of reciting the Surah, a tradition from Imam Baqir (as) says:

"He who recites Al-Qari'ah, Allah secures him from the calamity of (believing in) Dajjal (the deceiver) and also from the hideousness of Hell on the Day of Judgement, Allah willing,"

Benefits

This is a 'makki' Surah which has 11 ayaat. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) has said that the person who frequently recites this Surah will be saved from the heat of hellfire.

If a businessman or a person in financial difficulties keeps this Surah in his possession, the doors of sustenance will be opened to him. Recitation of this Surah in prayers also increases in one's sustenance. Water in which this Surah has been dissolved is useful in keeping away unwanted pests (eg. Insects and rodents).

Lessons

People will be scattered like moths on the Day of Qiyāmah, drowned in their anxiety.Those people whose scales will be weighty on the Day of Judgement shall be in comfort.Those whose scales will be light on the Day of Judgement will be doomed and thrown headfirst into the Fire. May Allāh save us all.

This lesson Ustaadh Abu Humayd goes through Surah Al-Qari'ah. Al Qari'ah is from the names of the day of judgment. One of the reasons for this is that it brings terror and alarm to the hearts. This is what that day will do to the hearts. This Surah was revealed in Makkah.

This Surah comes after Surah Al-Adiyat.
