Chapter 14 - Two-Sided

I wake up feeling bad for getting mad yesterday. I walk out of my room and downstairs hoping to see them. No one was home. There was a note on the front door which read.

'We left for our adventure. Just please stay home and heal up. We'll be back later and split the reward with you - K'

I scrunched the paper in my hand and threw it in the bin.

"No. I need to show them that I'm fine."

I go upstairs and get changed and equip my gear and head for town.

As I'm walking towards the guild, I pass by the Blacksmith shop. The Blacksmith calls out to me.

Blacksmith: "Hey! Boy!"

I turn to him.

"Me?"

Blacksmith: "Yeah. Come inside, I've got something for you."

He's got something for me? Wonder what it could be...

I wander inside his shop.

Blacksmith: "Let me go grab it from the back."

I wait a bit and he comes back out and places a box on the counter.

Blacksmith: "I made a little something for ya! Should get you back up on your feet."

He opens the box revealing a black metallic prosthetic arm. I look at in awe.

"This...is for me? Why?"

Blacksmith: "Well we can't have one of our most strongest adventurers being held back!"

I pick up the prosthetic arm and hold it towards the nub. Suddenly the end of the arm stabs into the nub as I wince in pain.

After a bit the arm stops hurting and I calm down.

Blacksmith: "Try moving it."

I can't believe it...I absolutely can't believe it!

The prosthetic arm is moving normally as a normal arm would.

"What! Ho-How is this working?!"

Blacksmith: "Well the arm connected to your body and your muscles so it should work normally. The arm has connected manually to your severed arteries and tendons. You should be able to move it completely normally in no time! There's also a little secret I added but I'll let you figure that one out!"

"I can't believe it! How is there technology like this?!"

Blacksmith: "Well with the help of a few skills and spells, almost anything is possible."

"I-I can't thank you enough! How much will this be?"

He shook his head waving his right hand.

Blacksmith: "It's a gift."

"Thank you so much! What's your name?"

Kreig: "The name's Kreig."

"Kreig, thank you so much. Is there anything I can do to repay you?"

He gives me a smile.

Kreig: "Protecting the town will be enough."

I chuckle.

"Alright. Well I'll be going now. Thanks for the arm!"

I wave as he waves back. I walk out of the store and towards the guild with my spirits high. I enter and was greeted by Miyuki who seemed surprised.
