[Finn]

After Finn had left Jessica, he avoided her for the rest of the night. The following day, his heart was racing because he didn't want to see her after what he had said.

He also hadn't heard from Simone, which was worrying him. He didn't want to lose either of them, but it seemed like he was.

He was walking across the campus to his class when he saw a glimpse of familiar hair. He glanced over and saw Jessica, then started to walk far away from her as possible. His heart was racing as he speed walk away, not realizing that someone was following him. When he was safely away from Jessica's line of sight, he slowed down. He let out a sigh and a hand grabbed his arm. He felt like his heart stopped and then he turned around, but it wasn't who he thought it was.

"Simone."

Her name was said with a bit of relief and worry.

"Do you think you can skip your class so we can talk?"

"Yes, of course."

The two headed off campus to a nearby bookstore and sat across from one another at a table.

"I'm relieved to see you. I thought that you weren't going to speak to me again."

"To be honest, I didn't know what to say. You defended Jessica even though she broke your heart. I was there for you, always."

Finn sighed. "I know, Simone, I know. That part keeps repeating itself like a broke record in my head. But I really like Jessica. So my heart just took over and defended her. I know that's no excuse but I don't know what to tell you to get you to understand how much she means to me."

Simone was silent. For a second, Finn thought she'd leave and that would be the end of their friendship. But Simone simply held out her hand and he took it in his.

"I want you to understand how much you mean to me. We've grown up together. We've been there for each other since forever. There's no other person I'd rather do anything with than you. You're like my brother, Finn. You know how much I care about my family. I do want you to find someone. I really do. You're an amazing guy, Finn. You're sweet and passionate and you deserve the world. And if Jessica can't see that, if she can't see what a great guy you are," Simone shrugged and sighed, "then I don't know what to do. I just don't want to see you get hurt. That's why I've been hard on her. Why I've been mean and horrible and I'm sorry."

"When did to start feeling this way?"

"Since I first knew you had a crush on her. Junior year of high school."

Finn was surprised. "You knew?"

"Oh yeah. Some other people knew too. But I also knew that she didn't feel that way for you. And I was right for the most part. But that's our past. And I want to put this behind us."

"I'm willing to do that. But there's someone that you need to talk to."

Simone nodded. "Jessica."

"Yeah."

The two were silent before Simone stood up.

"Come here."

Finn stood up and the two shared a tight embrace.

"Love you, Finn."

"Love you, too."

[Simone]

After the talk with Finn, Simone reluctantly headed over to Jessica's dorm, hoping she was there but also that she wasn't.

Knocking on the door, she felt like her heart would just leap out of her chest. Felicity answered the door and was a little confused.

"I'm Simone. I need to talk to Jessica."

"Oh, well, she's not really here right now. You can wait here or try to find her. She's probably going to her class or leaving class."

"I'll wait here. If you don't mind."

"Not at all. Come in."

Simone sat on the couch as Felicity went back to her work. Simone waited for what felt like ages before Jessica came back and stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of Simone.

"What are you doing here?"

"I spoke with Finn. And now I think it's time for us to do so as well."

Jessica sighed and closed the door before sitting next to her.

"I'm sorry for what I said to you."

"I'm sorry, too."

"You need to understand that Finn is a huge part of my life and I don't want anything to happen to him. But you broke his heart."

Jessica sighed. "Simone, it was never my intention to hurt him. He's my friend and hurting him would hurt me. Which is why this whole situation hasn't been easy for me. I know that Finn's a huge part of your life and I used to think that you two were dating or would eventually date. Maybe you're hiding your feelings for each other or something. But then you guys said you were just friends and he wasn't dating anyone, and then started the whole "friends with benefits" thing which would only get us so far until he got feelings for me. And I would date Finn, if there wasn't something stopping me."

"What's that?"

Jessica sighed shakily and closed her eyes as she bowed her head. She had to let it go. After years and years of keeping this a secret, she was finally able to let it be free.

"I killed someone."

Simone furrowed her eyebrows. She knew Jessica a little, but didn't think she was capable of murdering  someone. "Explain."

"My first boyfriend. We were together freshman year and sophomore year. During our sophomore year, we got into an argument and I went off into the woods behind my house. I didn't know that Alec had gone to look for me but he didn't know the woods like I did. After a few minutes had passed, I went back the way I came and I saw Alec on the ground with blood on his shirt. I dragged him back to my house a-and when I got in, m-my parents started to y-yell at me. They loved Alec, and s-so did I."

Jessica stopped there as she began to sob and Simone brought her into a tight embrace.

"It's okay, Jessica. You didn't kill him. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time."

"But he wouldn't be there if it wasn't for me."

Simone let go to look at her. "Jessica. It is not your fault. You didn't kill him. And I don't think Alec would've wanted you to be grieving all this time and not want to find someone else. So don't blame yourself, okay?"

Jessica nodded and sniffled before giving Simone another hug. That hug lasted longer than the first and when they let go, Jessica wiped her eyes.

"I'm ready to put everything behind us. Now that I know why, I can't stay mad at you."

"Thank you."

"Thank you for trusting me."
