Hi! I just spoke to you like a couple of minutes ago, but here I am. So, after doing a little bit of reading, I figured that it's been maybe 3-4 weeks since they started school. So I decided to skip September as there aren't really any major things happening so that's why I let a significant amount of time pass and why this chapter is short. Which maybe a good thing or a bad thing for them 😏😉
[Caitlin]
One month laterA month had pass and it was already October. The college was having a Halloween party the end of the month, which was supposed to be the biggest party ever. There were a couple of parties before, but none of them were as big the Halloween party.
It was currently a Tuesday morning and Caitlin was getting ready to head out to meet Ronnie. Ever since the night of the fair, Ronnie and Caitlin have gotten close. Simone had disappeared and Finn still talked to her from time to time, but Ronnie was closer to her than anyone else. It had gotten chilly within the last few weeks and she couldn't wait for the hot coffee to warm her up.
After getting ready, she headed out and smiled when she saw Ronnie waiting for her.
"Caitlin."
"Hi."
She gave him a hug, which returned and the two headed inside. They continued to talk as they got their food and he walked her to class when they were done. When he bid her goodbye, he placed a kiss to her cheek, which caused her to blush. Throughout the day, she focused hard in her classes and wrote down whatever she thought was necessary. By midday, she was going over a few of her notes as she was walking and didn't realize that someone was about to bump into her.
"Sorry. I didn't- Caitlin?"
She glanced up and was surprised at what she saw.
"Barry? You wear glasses?"
"What? Oh, yeah. I started wearing them last month."
Barry and Caitlin had become distant since that night and now, neither one of them are in the dorm while the other is there.
"How've you been?"
"I've been good. You?"
"I've been good, too."
There was an awkward silence between them before Barry spoke up.
"It was nice to see you, Cait, but I got to run."
"Oh. Okay. Bye, Barry."
"Bye, Cait."
She watched as he walked away and she couldn't help but check him out.
He looked good.
Really good.
Especially with those glasses.
"What happened to us, Barry?"
[Barry]
Seeing Caitlin again made his heart pound and he felt butterflies just thinking about her. But he knew that things had changed a lot since the night of the fair, and he had to let her have some space.
His conscious was right. Things were going to change between them.
Well, well, well. Look who's finally admitting it.
How do I fix this?
But he already knew the answer. He had to wait until Caitlin was ready to talk to him.
But when would that be?
Barry didn't want to wait, but Patty told him to give her space and time.
Patty
The two had gotten close like Ronnie and Caitlin had. Barry really liked spending time with her and always went to her for advice.
"If she's ready to talk, she'll come to you."
"But what if she's waiting for me to talk to her?"
Patty stopped at her dorm room and glanced at him. "Then you need to decide what you're going to do. Wait until she's ready or take a stab at trying to reconnect with her."
She said goodbye and he mumbled it back, too conflicted as to what he should do. He ran a hand through his hair as he walked out of the hall and headed to his own. He then remembered a package he was waiting for and headed to the mail room.
"Hi, how can I help you?"
"Hi, I'm here to check if I received a package? My name's Barry Allen. Dorm number 1D."
The guy behind the counter turned to find the mailbox for the dorm and pulled out a package.
"Here we are."
"Thank you."
"Have a nice night."
"Thank you. You too."
Barry headed giddily back to his dorm and waited for Caitlin to come back. He ended up getting sleepy and decided to leave it on her bed with a note.
Dear Cait,
I know it's been a month and a half since I ruined your biology book, but I went and ordered you a new one to make up for the one I ruined. I'm sorry.
Barry
When Caitlin came back, she glanced Barry's sleeping frame and noticed the package on her bed. She read the note and quickly opened the package to reveal a brand new biology textbook. Caitlin's heart melted at the thought of Barry buying it for her and glanced over at him. She walked over to him and sat on the edge of his bed. She watched him sleep but then looked away because she didn't know why she was doing that. The next morning, when Barry woke up, Caitlin was gone. Barry placed on his glasses and frowned at her empty bed. He went to the bathroom to get ready and when he walked out, he noticed a post it note on the door of the room.
Barry,
Thank you for the book. I do appreciate you buying me a new one. You don't have to apologize for it. Thank you for letting me borrow your book in the meantime.
Your Cait
Barry let our a sigh as he held the note in his hands before placing it in the drawer of the nightstand.Looks like he would have to try harder to make things right with Caitlin.
