Let's begin shall we?
You can see it in my eyes
I can feel it in your touch
You don't have to say a thing
Just let me show how much
Love you, need you, yeahI wanna kiss you all over
And over again
I wanna kiss you all over

Finn lay still upon the couch in Ms. Nordin's office, his brother Nick in the chair nearby. The teen had tried twice since his panic attack to reach his inner child with the psychologist's help but to no avail. That part of his mind remained hidden and the boy wasn't sure this time would be any different.
But I have to try just the same.
"Alright, Finn, I want you to relax your body. Breathe in and out. Nice and slow until you feel as light as air."
Finn did as instructed, keeping his eyes closed, letting his muscles go slack as he steadied his breathing.
"Do you feel relaxed?"
"Yes," he answered.
"Good. Now I want you to focus your mind. Search out your inner child."
He felt the pull, as he had the first time, and went willingly, finding himself in the same place he was before, the water rising and his hands clenched and then relaxed outside of his mind. "I'm there but... it's... it's the same as before... I don't know if I can do this."
The psychologist noticed his physical reaction to the threat in his mind, her voice even and smooth as she spoke, "Do not fear and do not panic, Finn. You are going to reach out to your inner child now."
"How? How do I do this?"
"Visualize a rope from the boat to your hand. It is your own mind, therefore you are in control."
"I'm the one in control?"
"That's right. You are in control. You have to power to reach the child within you." Nordin responded then asked, "Do you see the rope?"
Finn looked down, finding a rope clutched in his right hand. "Yes, I see it."
"Good. Now I want you to pull, slow and steady."
The boy tugged on the rope in steady movements. Hand over hand, the boat slowly edging towards him only to wince at the rope grew taunt, rubbing harshly against his palms, burning the skin and he gritted his teeth. "There's... something wrong... I can't get the boat to move."
"Your inner child is resisting the pull. They are testing your resolve. You need to prove your sincerity. Tell them you want to help them, that they are safe, that you won't let any harm come to them ever again. Let the child feel the truth of your emotions. Show them by standing firm, by not quitting. Show them that you care by fighting for them."
