Here we are with another chapter to this story of mine.

We begin my version of episode 3 in literary format and I hope you all enjoy it as I struggled to complete it.

A little bit of Mike and El exploration towards the end but it's not too naughty (consummation for these two is a few episodes off yet.)

A little bit of Finn and Millie at the end as well and when we begin part two, it will be with our favorite lovebirds enjoying  a small respite in the New Mexico Taos Ski Valley.

The rest is ST related with all kinds of things going on.

These chapters are becoming very long and I may shorten them to update more frequently.... not sure yet.

Anyway, on to the story!

There'll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life livable

December 16, 1987 Hawkins Memorial Hospital

Chief Grant exited the elevator doors that opened up onto the fourth floor, his heterochromia visible in shades of blue and green below the florescent light that buzzed above his head.

He started forward, rounding the corner to his left to find the small form of Officer Steinbeck talking to a rather pretty nurse in front of the nurse's station and he let out a sigh before approaching in measured steps.

The smaller policeman caught sight of his boss and straightened his form, the nurse looking over her shoulder briefly before snapping her gaze back and excusing herself.

Steinbeck shifted from his right to his left foot, clearing his throat as he greeted his boss. "Hey, chief. You got here fast."

"Well, it's not everyday I receive information that my roving suspect has come home to roost," Grant deadpanned, his gaze roaming as he asked, "Where is Mansfield?"

"With McKenzie, sir," the younger male answered. "Keeping post in case he wakes up and starts yelling again."

Grant frowned. "Why don't you fill me in on what transpired before arriving at the hospital?"

The officer nodded. "Yes, sir." He cleared his throat once more then began. "We were doing our normal rounds on the county highway when we spotted someone stumbling around on the side of the road..."

"About how close were you from town?" the chief interjected.

"About 10 minutes," Steinbeck answered. "Near the spot the dogs tracked the suspect the day before."

The wheels in Grant's head started to spin into motion but he did not voice his thoughts as he asked, " What happened next?"

"Well, we pulled over and investigated. Mansfield got out and approached the suspect and when he turned around...."

These pauses were killing Grant and he made a get on with it motion with his hand. "And...."

Steinbeck shifted his weight from his left to right foot, voice a bit more shaky. "And he was covered head to toe in blood, sir."

His features were pale and he shook his head as if to free his mind of the image. "It was.... I've never seen anything like it."

I have, he answered silently, images of wounded and dead soldiers flashing in his head and he forced them savagely back into the unconscious parts of his mind, betraying none of his emotions as he replied, "And how did McKenzie respond to your presence?"
